April 2004

Wednesday 7th April

Pub Night - The Griffin Inn, Danbury

Marion

If you aren't actually tootling along the motorway to the Lakes, how about an evening at The Griffin Inn in Main Road (A414), Danbury (see map). (The original plan to go to The Hawk at Battlesbridge has been shelved because it is closed for a month after a kitchen fire).

Thursday 8th April to Tuesday 13th April

Easter in the Lake District

Dave P

Ullswater

Five nights at the Langton Centre, Hartsop in Patterdale, at the foot of the Kirkstone Pass, near Brotherswater, 2 miles from Ullswater and in sight of Hellvelyn and the High Street range. An ideal location for some of the best walking in the Lake District.

The centre has 5 dormitories, central heating, showers, a common room with easy chairs, dining room and games room, a drying room and well equipped kitchen.

Pillows and blankets are provided; please bring your own sleeping bag. If you need to contact us there, the payphone number is 017684 82470. To find it, turn off A592 near Brotherswater onto the lane to Hartsop (phone box on the corner). We are in the big white house next to phone box. Grid reference NY405133, see map. Park by the games room (not in the lane).

A deposit of £25 will book your place. Total cost will be about £13 per night for bed and meals, plus £27 pounds petrol contribution for those sharing lifts from the Chelmsford area. So if you stay all 5 nights, the total will be about £92.

Wednesday 14th April

Table Mountain fron Robben Island ferry

Wednesday 21st April

South Africa slides - revisited!

Claire L

Postponed from that snowy Wednesday last January - now's your chance to see sun-scorched scenery from Claire's visit to South Africa in December. Pictures of Cape Town, Table Mountain and infamous Robben Island.

Hanningfield Reservoir

Sunday 25th April

Hanningfield Cycle Ride

James

Meet at the Recreation Ground in Baddow Road at 11am for a scenic ride out to Hanningfield Reservoir. There'll be time to see the visitor centre and nature reserve, and we'll have lunch at the waterfront restaurant.

Wednesday 28th April

Theatre Night: Much Ado About Nothing

Trudi

A witty, warring, wooing comedy. Shakespeare's play is given a glamorous 1930s setting, with the witty, fast-talking comedies of 1930s Hollywood influencing both the look and style of production.

Spend an evening drinking in the culture at another of Chelmsford Theatre Workshop's excellent productions.

Please let Trudi know by the 21st if you want her to book the tickets, otherwise the Box Office can be reached on 01245 606505.

The production begins at 7.45pm at The Old Court Theatre, 233 Springfield Road, Chelmsford (opposite the prison).

Cost: £5 (£4 concessions).

Note: Unless otherwise stated, Wednesday events start at 8.30pm at the YMCA in Victoria Road, Chelmsford
