Wednesday 3rd March Crime Prevention & Personal Safety Marion Come and get the low down on car crime, road rage, muggers and drink spiking from our friendly local crime prevention officer. How many of us know someone who's been a victim of crime? Get some tips on how to protect yourself. Our guest is arriving at 8pm so please come earlier than usual! Friday 5th to Sunday 7th March Stow-on-the-Wold This hostel is a recently refurbished listed 16th century building in the town centre offers comfortable accommodation and a perfect base for exploring the Cotswolds on foot or by cycle. The picturesque villages of Bourton on the Water and the Slaughters are close by but there are many out of the way hamlets to discover. The region is arguably the tea-shop capital of Britain! We may hire bikes, and there's plenty of opportunity for walks and sightseeing. Jim may bring his bike, so if anyone wants to cycle, contact Jim. The hostel is situated in the market place in the middle of Stow, with one or two pubs a few doors away. We'll probably have a pub meal or take away on Saturday night. Deposit £26. Cost about £43. Wednesday 10th March Pub Night Marion Join us for a drink at the Old Windmill, South Hanningfield (in South Hanningfield Road, opposite the entrance to the reservoir visitor's centre, grid ref TQ741975, see map). A traditional pub in this pretty part of the Essex countryside. (Not to be confused with the pub of a similar name in East Hanningfield.) Wednesday 17th March Committee Meeting Tell us where you want to go and what you want to do. Trip planning for the coming summer, including exciting Wednesday evening activities for May. Everybody is welcome. Wednesday 24th March Ten Pin Bowling Watch out those skittles! CYHA go bowling! Ten-pin bowling at Megabowl, Tattershall Way, Widford Industrial Estate, Chelmsford (See directions). Cost £3.75 per person per game, plus £1 for shoe hire. Please let Jim know by Wednesday 17th March if you want to come. Sunday 28th March Canal Walk Take this opportunity to join us on a walk through the heart of Essex, from Heybridge Basin along the Blackwater and the Chelmer canals to Chelmsford, the county town. The walk is approximately 13 miles end-to-end. We'll probably stop in the afternoon at the tea shop at Paper Mill Lock, but please bring sandwiches for lunch. We shall leave cars at each end as this is a linear walk. Meet outside the YMCA in Chelmsford at 10.00am or Heybridge Basin car park (TL870069, see map) at 10.30am. Don't forget that British Summer Time begins this morning - put your clock forward or else you'll be an hour late!
