Wednesday Meetings, Weekends Away & Other Events

November 2005

Wednesday 2nd November

The Queens Head

Dave J

An evening of drink and gossip at one of our favourite pubs.

The Queens Head is in Lower Anchor Street, Chelmsford and we'll be there from about 8.30pm. (Grid Ref TL702063, see map).

Telscombe Hostel

4th to 6th November

Telscombe Hostel, Sussex

Jim

Explore the South Downs from these 200 year old cottages.

The South Downs offer miles of well-drained chalk paths with uninterrupted views over rolling grassland.

Note: The hostel has no car park - you will have to park on the verge up the hill beyond the 30mph speed signs on the far side of the village. Take care not to obstruct the lane.

Deposit of £25 will book your bed. Total cost of the weekend will be about £40.

Wednesday 9th November

Committee Meeting

We will be trip planning for the new year and organising Wednesday evening activities for January.

Wednesday 16th November

Ten Pin Bowling

Dave J

Due to there being no badminton courts available, we'll be going ten pin bowling instead of the planned badminton evening.

Ten-pin bowling at Megabowl, Tattershall Way, Widford Industrial Estate, Chelmsford (See directions), at 8.30pm. Cost £5.25 per person per game, plus shoe hire.

If you'd like to come, please contact Dave J without delay

Rodings RallySaturday 19th November

Rodings Rally

Tom

Test your navigation and endurance with this classic night orienteering event in Epping Forest, organised by Epping Forest Outdoor Group (formerly Walthamstow & Chingford YHA Group). Some run, some walk, but the idea is to find as many of the cunningly hidden checkpoints as you can, in as short a time as possible. Tom has volunteered to coordinate teams, so please let him know if you're interested. Entry cost is £4.50.

Wednesday 23rd November

The All-comers Slide Show of the Year

Dave P

Limited to 20 shots per person (or we'll be here all night), the idea is to highlight all the wonderful things we've done this year, but human nature being what it is I would expect a strong showing from Telscombe, Salisbury and Jersey trips as they are the most recent.

The slide show will be in digital format, but prints and slides can be scanned as necessary (if in doubt, please speak to Dave). Please make sure all the pics get to Dave by the 16th Nov at the very latest.

Sunday 27th November

Hockley Woods Walk

Jim

Join Jim and celebrate the season of mists and mellow fruitfulness on a superb 8 mile walk through Hockley Woods to Hull Bridge and back. A beer and a warming lunch is intended at The Anchor, Hull Bridge for those who let Jim know they are coming by 23rd Nov.

Meet at the car park at 10:30am (grid ref TQ833923, see map). From Rochford, take the B1013 Hall Road, follow this road through Hockley Town Centre. Then look for The Bull Public House on the left. Parking and the entrance to the woods is immediately on the left before the pub.

Wednesday 30th November

Graham's Christmas Wine Tasting

Graham

After the very successful event back in May, Graham has volunteered a return session, and he will introduce us to some more grape types. A chance to try before stocking your cellar in time for Christmas!

Each taster needs to bring 6 wine glasses per person. Spittoons will be provided!

Exact cost will depend on the number of attendees, but is likely to be about £5 each. It is essential to let Graham know if you are coming by 23rd November, so he knows how much wine to buy.

Note: Unless otherwise stated, Wednesday events start at 8.30pm at the YMCA in Victoria Road, Chelmsford
