Tanners Hatch hostel

Friday 14th to Sunday 16th November

Tanners Hatch, Surrey

Dave P

Tanners Hatch is quite possibly the most beautiful, 'traditional' Youth Hostel in England, in an idyllic National Trust woodland setting in deepest Surrey. This ancient and seemingly remote cottage is just outside Dorking in the Surrey Hills Area of outstanding Natural Beauty. It offers an opportunity to get away from it all and explore the network of footpaths. Polesden Lacey, a National Trust Regency mansion, is a short walk away and there's an open fire in the lounge for relaxing by in the evening. There is no road access to the hostel; it is a 15 - 20 minute walk from the car park.

Total cost about £30. Deposit £18 to book please.

Wednesday 19th November

Iceland Slide Show

Ali

Svartifoss, Iceland

See the wonders of the world's largest volcanic island and a glacier bigger than all the glaciers in Europe rolled into one - a land experiencing the extremes of fire and ice. Prepare yourselves for stunning scenery and a bumpy ride!

(Preview some of our Iceland pictures)

Saturday 22nd November

Tom's House Warming

Tom

Tom's now moved into his new house in Saffron Walden, and everyone's invited to a house warming party.

Meet at 12pm at Audley End Station carpark for a healthy autumn walk in the best scenery Essex has to offer, or from 5pm at Tom's house for the house-warming itself. Please let Tom know if you're coming as he'll want to know how big a bucket is needed for the chilli he's cooking. Also say if you are a vegetarian, and bring your own drinks.

Audley End station is by Wendons Ambo, 2 miles south west of Saffron Walden (heading north from Newport on B1383 turn left on B1039; large, free station car park, see map).

Wednesday 26th November

Carpet Bowls

Marion

"Combine the elegance of golf with the precision of billiards. Only no club or cue, and no green. All you need is a carpet…"

Pit your wits and test your skill with this game of strategy and judgement. No previous experience necessary!

Note: Unless otherwise stated, Wednesday events start at 8.30pm at the YMCA in Victoria Road, Chelmsford
