Friday 1st to Sunday 3rd July Blaxhall, Suffolk Jim We’re planning a summer weekend to Blaxhall hostel in Suffolk. On the edge of the Suffolk Sandlings, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, with easy walking and flat cycling routes. Other attractions in the area include Snape Maltings, the castles at Framlingham and Orford, and the seaside delights of Aldeburgh and Southwold. Deposit £33 please. (Total cost will be about £55). Wednesday 6th July Evening Cycle Ride – Broads Green Jim Meet at The Walnut Tree in Broads Green at 7:30pm for a lovely cycle ride (about 10 miles) through the Essex countryside. We’ll return to the pub for a drink, but please note that the Walnut Tree does not do food – the Landlord prefers to concentrate on beer and a traditional atmosphere. (Grid ref TL 693125; approx 1 mile west of Little Waltham, see map) Wednesday 13th July Committee Meeting We’ll be looking at walks and Wednesdays for October, – feel free to join us. Saturday 16th July The Roach Valley Way part 1 Dave J The Roach Valley Way is a 23 mile circular walk around south east Essex leading through a rich variety of landscapes from the ancient woodlands of Hockley to the expansive coastal margins of the Roach and Crouch estuaries. We will split the walk into two legs of around 12 miles each. Both days we will meet at Rochford station 10:30am for a car shuffle to Canewdon. Saturday: we will walk from Rochford to Canewdon via Paglesham. Sunday :from Canewdon to Rochford via Hockley. This is a new walk devised in 1986 and now fully restored by Essex CC and a school in Benfleet. Please bring sandwiches and let Dave J know so car shuffles can be planned a bit in advance. Sunday 17th July Roach Valley Way part 2 Dave J See above for details. Meet at Rochford station at 10:30am. Wednesday 20th July Evening Walk - Writtle Mike Meet in the village car park by the green at Writtle (close to the duck pond, grid ref TL678062, see map) at 7:30pm for a walk along the Can & Wid (approx. 3 miles). We plan to assemble back at the Wheatsheaf, Writtle, for a drink about 9ish. Wednesday 27th July Pitch & Putt Andrew An evening of something vaguely resembling golf! Meet in the car park of West Park Pitch and Putt, Waterhouse Lane, Chelmsford at 7.30pm if you want a game, or 9pm at the Black Bull pub in Rainsford Road if you just fancy a pint. Cost: approx. £4.
