Wednesday 1st June No Meeting Many of us will be in Scotland. Wednesday 8th June Evening Cycle Ride Doug Meet at the Viper, Mill Green at 7.30p.m. for an easy ride along lanes, byways and woodland trails. Parts of our route will be off-road, but flat and undemanding, ideal for novices, and manageable even without a mountain-bike. The pub is delightfully situated in the middle of an oak wood, an ideal location for post-ride refreshment (CM4 0PT for sat-navs, grid ref TL640019, see map). Wednesday 15th June Committee Meeting We’ll be looking at walks and Wednesdays for September, – feel free to join us. Sunday 19th June Mersea Island Walk John Join John for a circumnavigation of Mersea Island. Once the home to one of the richest villa estates in Roman Britain, the island is steeped in history and has witnessed Roman merchantmen, Celtic saints, Viking longboats, Stuart earthworks, smugglers, Victorian novelists and 1940s invasion defences. The walk offers commanding views of the Blackwater, St. Peter's Headland, wildfowl in the Pyefleet Channel, and the oldest continuously-used causeway in Britain. The walk is about twelve miles. Meet at 10.30 am in the car park in West Mersea High Street (behind the library, grid ref TM009126, see map). Bring sandwiches for lunch. (Note, due to tides, egress from the island may be difficult before 1715) Wednesday 22nd June Dinner at The Alma Dave J Join Dave for a lovely meal out at The Alma, Arbour Lane, CM1 7RG at 7:30pm. Please let Dave know by 15th June if you’re coming, we may need to book a table. Wednesday 29th June Evening Walk – Pleshey Cress Meet in the main street in Pleshey, close to The Leather Bottle at 7:30pm for a short walk (about 3 miles) before returning to the pub for a drink about 9ish. (Pleshey is about 5 miles NW of Chelmsford, and the pub is in the centre of the village, grid ref TL665145, see map).
