Pub walk – The Rodney

Meet at The Rodney pub in Little Baddow (CM3 4TQ) at 7:30pm for a short walk of about 3.5 miles. We should be back at the pub for a drink about 9ish.

Committee meeting

Planning events for November and trips for next year. Everybody welcome.

Canal walk

We’ve walked the 14 miles of the Chelmer & Blackwater Navigation every year for over 20 years, but this year we thought we’d try a slightly different format. The plan is to drive to Maldon, catch the 9am bus to Chelmsford, and then walk back to Maldon. Chelmsfordians may wish to try for a lift home rather than mess about with buses, but buses run every 2 hours throughout the day.

Parking just off the High Street in White Horse Lane (CM9 5QP) is free on Sundays. Our bus stop is just outside the White Horse pub and the bus leaves at 9am, arriving in Chelmsford 9:35am.

Evening bike ride - Writtle

Meet in the Writtle village car park (just off the Green) at 7:30pm for a bike ride of about 12 to 15 miles, getting back to Writtle about 9ish for a nightcap (probably The Wheatsheaf)

Sunday 23^rd August

Jim’s Birthday Barbie

It’s August, so the weather is bound to be perfect for a barbecue at Jim’s house from 2pm. Please bring things to barbecue and drink, and possibly something to sit on. Jim’s doing bread, salads and burning hot coals.

Pub Meal – The Running Mare

Join us for a tasty meal at 7.30pm at The Running Mare (CM2 8PN) in Galleywood. If the weather’s nice we might be able to sit outside. Let Jim know by 19^th Aug if you want to come.

Friday 28^th to Monday 31^st August

Bridges Hostel, Shropshire

Cress

Bridges hostel is an old village school in a rural location in the Shropshire Hills, close to the Long Mynd and Stiperstones. The Shropshire Way footpath passes the hostel, and there’s a good pub just around the corner. The market towns of Ludlow, Much Wenlock and Bishop’s Castle are nearby.

Deposit £48 to book your place.

Note: Unless otherwise stated, Wednesday events start at 8.30pm at the YMCA in Victoria Road, Chelmsford
