Expected distance 14-15 miles. Meet at The Walnut Tree, Broads Green, CM3 1DT at 7:30 pm. Wednesday 8th July Pub Quiz – The White Horse Jim Get those brain cells ticking over with an evening of general (and less general) knowledge at The White Horse, Great Baddow, CM2 7HH. The quiz usually starts about 8:30 – 9pm and you pay a couple of quid to enter. The pub does nice food and Jim suggested meeting at 8pm if you want to eat as well. Sunday 12th July Coggeshall Bike Ride Jim Meet at the clocktower in Coggeshall (car park off Stoneham Street, CO6 1TT) at 10:30am for a gorgeous ride taking in Tollesbury and Abberton. About 32 miles with plenty of opportunities to stop for refreshments, although it might be wise to bring a picnic in case it’s busy! Wednesday 15th July Committee Meeting Planning events for October and trips for next year. Please feel free to come along. Wednesday 22nd July Pub Walk – The Hoop, Stock Dave J Meet at Stock Village Hall, CM4 9NF (left turn opposite The Bakers Arms), at 7:30pm where there should be plenty of parking. The walk is a bit less than 4 miles, so we should be at the Hoop for a drink by 9pm. Wednesday 29th July Faroes Talk John M The Faroes are a rocky bunch if islands about half way between Iceland and Norway. Wild and incredibly scenic, the islands have been under the control of Norway, Denmark and even invaded by the British. Join us for an evening to learn more about this great destination (direct flights from Cambridge!). Friday 31st July to Sunday 2nd August Swanage, Dorset Dave P YHA Swanage is an elegant Victorian villa and provides the ideal base from which to explore the stunning coast and countryside of the Isle of Purbeck. The house overlooks the sparkling blue waters of Swanage Bay on Dorset’s World Heritage Jurassic Coast and is just yards away from the town centre, sandy beaches and close by the Swanage Steam Railway to Corfe Castle. It’s also the last day of the Swanage Carnival, so we can expect music and fireworks on the seafront on Saturday evening. How to get there: From the town centre, turn up Stafford Road by the White Swan pub. YHA Swanage is at the top of the hill on the right (Cluny Crescent, BH19 2BS). The car park is up St Vasts Rd. Deposit £40 to book your bed please. Total cost of the weekend will be about £70. Note: Unless otherwise stated, Wednesday events start at 8.30pm at the YMCA in Victoria Road, Chelmsford |
