Pub & Nature Walk

Park at the little National Trust car park close to The Cricketers pub on Danbury common. A 7:30pm start will give us time to stretch our legs for a mile or two on the common before it gets too dark, then we can round off the evening with a drink in the pub.

Directions: Take A414 east from Chelmsford, turn right opposite the Bell Inn in Danbury (Well Lane), left at the end, car park is on the left after ¼ mile, just beyond junction with Penny Royal Rd; grid ref: TL779046, see map.

Paper Mill Lock

Paper Mill to Hatfield Peverel walk

Meet at Paper Mill Lock (NGR TL776089, nearest post code CM3 4BT) at 10:30am for a 8 mile walk to Hatfield Peverel and back. This is a lovely walk starting in the Chelmer valley then ascending to Peverel with views across to Baddow and Danbury. Please bring sandwiches, but there should be opportunities for refreshments in Peverel and in the tea rooms back at Paper Mill Lock. There is usually parking either at the roadside or down behind the tearooms.

Directions: From Chelmsford take A414 to Danbury. Turn left at mini roundabout signposted Little Baddow. After 2½ miles downhill, the Paper Mill Lock car park is on the left immediately before the river bridge (NGR TL776089, see map).

Meet outside the Civic Theatre at 7:30pm for a town walk of about 2 miles taking in some of the cultural highlights of Chelmsford. The Fairfield Road car park is £1 after 6pm (CM1 1TD). Find out about the city’s Roman and medieval heritage, meet its most famous residents and discover how its high tech manufacturing changed the world.
