Bank holiday weekend at the National Trust's Wallington Bunkhouse. This well-equipped and comfortable bunkhouse is situated in the heart of the Wallington estate in beautiful Northumberland, making an ideal base from which to explore the surrounding countryside. Walks in the Cheviots and by Hadrian's Wall are possible.

Weekend at YHA Strealey-on-Thames, a comfortable Victorian house, close to one of the prettiest stretches of the River Thames. We plan to walk some sections of the Thames Path.

Darsham Country Centre

A summer weekend cycling or walking in the Suffolk countryside. Darsham Country Centre near Saxmundham is the old Station Master’s House at Darsham railway station. Providing comfortable hostel-style accommodation, the location is convenient for visits to the Suffolk coast at Southwold, Aldeburgh, Minsmere bird reserve and Walberswick. We can also visit Ipswich for art, history and culture.

The Centre is on the station and close to the A12, so easy to get to by car or train. It has several 4 and 5 bed rooms and two single rooms.

Friday 24th to Sunday 27th August

Hardraw, Yorkshire Dales

Bank holiday weekend at Hardraw Old Schoolhouse, in the village of Hardraw near Hawes in Wensleydale. The Pennine Way passes beside the bunkhouse, on its way up Great Shunner Fell and over to Swaledale. Or for a less demanding walk, follow the Pennine Way south for a mile to Hawes, the capital of Wensleydale, with its pubs, teashops, museum and cheese factory.

Directions: From the A1(M), follow the A684 west for 29 miles through Bedale and Leyburn. Turn right in Hawes before entering the one way system. Follow this road across a river and up a hill to a T junction where you turn left and descend into Hardraw - Hardraw Old School Bunkhouse is on your right after the pub and church. Grid ref SD866912, postcode DL8 3LZ. You will need to bring a sleeping bag. The Green Dragon pub is less than a hundred metres from the Old School Bunkhouse, and is the entrance to Hardraw Force, the highest single drop waterfall in England.

Big Mose Bunkhouse, Shropshire

Stay at the National Trust's Big Mose Bunkhouse near Bridgenorth in Shropshire. Walk on the Severn Valley Way and in the Shropshire Hills.

The bunkhouse is a large Tudor farmhouse on the National Trust's beautiful Dudmaston Estate with its acres of pristine parkland and grand hall dating back almost 900 years..
