City of London Walk

Visit the London Wall, St.Paul's churchyard and if possible the new London Mithraeum (on the site of an ancient temple, see selection of the remarkable Roman artefacts found during the recent excavations, as well as contemporary art commissions responding to one of the UK’s most significant archaeological sites). We may also visit the College of Heralds, and the London Museum. Walk will be about 5 or 6 miles, and we'll find a café for lunch. Please let John know in advance if you're coming because we may need to book for the London Mithraeum. Meet at Tower Hill underground at 10.30am.

Planning events for May and trips for the autumn. Please feel free to join us. We’ll be at The Crown in Sandon.

Sample the delights of delicious Turkish cuisine from this new restaurant, Stone Grill, in Springfield Road (near Victoria Rd traffic lights), Chelmsford CM2 6LF. We plan to eat 7:30pm. Let Jim know by 14 Feb if you want to come.

A weekend in the UK’s only island city – the historic waterfront city of Portsmouth. Visit the historic dockyard, HMS Victory, the Mary Rose museum, Spinnaker Tower, Southsea Castle, museums and waterfront.

Staying at Ibis Budget hotel, we have reserved some double/twin rooms at £57 per person for the 2 nights. The hotel is by the Pompey Centre Retail Park, Fratton PO4 8SL (about 2 miles from the waterfront). There is ample parking on the retail park – free permits from hotel reception. We’ll buy all meals out.

More sunny island memories to chase away those winter chills. Both Jim & Lily and Dave & Ali visited Tenerife and La Palma last year – both are stunning destinations for a winter walking holiday. Think calderas, volcanos and crystal oceans.
