Pub Meal - The Six Bells

Join us for a lovely meal at the Six Bells, Boreham, CM3 3JE, at 7.30pm. Let Ali know by 25^th October if you want to be included in the numbers. I am due to get a year older on 5^th Nov, but likely to be upstaged by Dave - hence getting my celebration in early.

We have exclusive use of this hostel to celebrate Dave reaching the age of 60 years and 19 days!

HSM was opened in 1935 as a "demonstration hostel", purpose designed by architect Howard Lobb (whose later designs included Hunterston A nuclear power station, and Leicester Forest services on the M1). A memorable feature in the common room is the frieze of characters including walkers, cyclists and the architect himself.

Enjoy autumnal walks in the woodlands surrounding the hostel, climb the "Three Peaks of Surrey" (Holmbury, Leith and Box hills), and visit National Trust Polesden Lacey, an Edwardian country retreat with elegant gardens and tea room. We'll have a bring-and-share buffet on Saturday evening, and there might be some beer available while we reminisce about Milton Keynes.

Directions: Holmbury is 2 miles south of Abinger Hammer (on the A25) between Guildford and Dorking. Following signs to Holmbury on B2126 (Felday Road); hostel is 1 mile north of the village. Sunday walk: Clare to Hawkedon

Meet 10.30am at Clare Castle Country Park (CO10 8NW, ///blown.trifle.search) (car park chargeable on Sundays) for an 8 mile walk through the Suffolk countryside with some great views. The route is one way and we'll be taking the community bus back (£3 each). Bring packed lunch but there may be a pub at the end.
