Truleigh Hill, South Downs

Mike

Truleigh Hill hostel is an unusual building high up on the South Downs in Sussex. Built as a summer-house on brick stilts in the 1930s, it has since been modernized and extended. It has magnificent views across the hills towards Devil's Dyke. You can follow the South Downs Way footpath, which passes the hostel, to the hill fort on Devilís Dyke, and via the Clayton Windmills (Jack and Jill) up to Ditchling Beacon.

Directions: From A27 take the A283 to Shoreham. Turn left at the Red lion. 400 yards turn left (signpost). 2nd right (Signpost). 2miles sharp right hand bend further 1 mile hostel on right just after the trees. (see map)

£30 to book your bed. Total cost about £47.

Wednesday 26th September

Syria Talk

John M

Having found Johnís Jordan talk absolutely fascinating, Iím really looking forward to the Syria sequel. Rock, dust and politics in the Middle East.

"Syria, central to the modern Middle East and gradually emerging from decades of isolation, offers much to see. Slides of ancient Greek cities, Biblical places, Crusader castles, Byzantine churches, thermal springs, the Dead Sea and modern sites."

Note: Unless otherwise stated, Wednesday events start at 8.30pm at the YMCA in Victoria Road, Chelmsford
