Sunday 9th September The Discovery at Harwich This September the replica ship Discovery is visiting Harwich, so we thought it would be fun to go and meet her. It is the 400th anniversary of Jamestown Virginia USA which was founded by people from Essex - hence the event. There is also a free exhibition on the Quay side. Meet at 10.30am at the Ha’Penny Pier visitor centre (grid ref TM259328, see map), The Quay, Harwich CO12 3HH, for a walk of about 4 miles. Rock, dust and politics in the Middle East. "Syria, central to the modern Middle East and gradually emerging from decades of isolation, offers much to see. Slides of ancient Greek cities, Biblical places, Crusader castles, Byzantine churches, thermal springs, the Dead Sea and modern sites." Note: Unless otherwise stated, Wednesday events start at 8.30pm at the YMCA in Victoria Road, Chelmsford |
