1912 Centre Harwich

Friday 4th to Sunday 6th October

1912 Centre, Harwich

Dave/George

We've booked the 1912 Centre, a hostel in the old fire station in the Harwich Conservation Area. Including a celebration of George's 70th birthday with a Polish themed buffet and nautical activities.

This hostel is in the heart of Harwich heritage area, only 50m from the sandy beach, promenade and harbour. It was built in 1912 as the Town Fire Station, and has been converted to a fully-equipped hostel. We have sole use for this weekend. You'll need to bring a sleeping bag.

Lower Light, Harwich

There'll be opportunities to explore the historic port. Visit Dedham and follow the Stour Estuary from Manningtree, Mistley and Wrabness to the seaside resort of Dovercourt.

Directions: From A120 follow signs past Harwich Quay until you come to a large painted wall mural, then take 1st right and the hostel is on your right.

Or from Harwich Town railway station, follow signs to Electric Palace. (Cow Lane, Off Wellington Rd, CO12 3ES, see map)

£40 deposit to book a bed

Wednesday 9th October

AGM

The CYHA annual general meeting, starts 8.30pm at the YMCA, Victoria Rd, Chelmsford. Please make every effort to attend and help shape our club for the coming year.

Including a review of the year’s activities and election of the committee.

Wednesday 16th October

Pub Meal – The Hare, Roxwell

Dave P

It’s Dave’s birthday, so we’re heading for a venue with pies. Let Dave know by 9 October if you want to join us. The Hare, A1060, Roxwell, CM1 4LU at 7:30pm.

Sunday 20th October

Walk – Epping Forest and Copped Hall

Cress

Meet at Copped Hall, CM16 5HS, at 10am for a tour of the house (entry £8). The Hall was built back in 1758, but was reduced to an elegant but scorched shell back in 1917 after a fire. Since then it has been gradually restored, and this is a chance to see how it has progressed since our visit in 2010.

We’ll probably eat our sandwiches at the hall before heading off into Epping Forest for a walk in the afternoon.

Wednesday 23rd October

Committee meeting

Join us at The Crown in Sandon to plan events for January and trips for next year.

Wednesday 30th October

Shetland slide show

Dave P

At the end of May we spent a week in the gorgeous Shetland Isles. Incredible wildlife and scenery perfect for a slide show. If you have pictures to share, please bring them.

Note: Unless otherwise stated, Wednesday events start at 8.30pm at the YMCA in Victoria Road, Chelmsford
