Wednesday 1st October Pub Quiz Jim Join Jim at the White Horse in Great Baddow (CM2 7HH) for an evening of mental stimulation. The quiz starts at about 9pm, but if you fancy some pub grub come a bit earlier at 7:30pm. Wednesday 8th October Pub Meal – The Three Elms George It’s George’s birthday and what better way to celebrate than with a hearty meal at the Three Elms in Chignal St James (CM1 4TZ) at 7:30pm. Please let George know if you’re coming, for table booking purposes, and the offer of a lift for him to get there would be very welcome! Directions: leave Chelmsford on the A1060 (Rainsford Rd/Roxwell Rd), turn right at lights into Chignall Road, after 1 mile turn left (Mashbury Rd), signposted Chignall St. James. The Three Elms is on the right after another mile, see map. Saturday 11th October Anatomical London Cress Meet at Marble Arch tube station at 10:30am for a walk of about 6½ miles taking in the history of medicine and anatomy, as told by the streets and museums of London. Tales of the body-snatchers, a visit to the Hunterian Museum, and possibly the Old Operating Theatre. The walk ends at London Bridge. Note that this is a Saturday walk, as some of the museums are closed on Sunday. Wednesday 15th October Committee Meeting We’ll be sorting through events for January & February and looking at trips for next year. Everybody welcome. Wednesday 22nd October AGM The CYHA annual general meeting. Please make every effort to attend and help shape our club for the coming year. Including a review of the year’s activities and election of the committee. Friday 24th to Sunday 26th October Eastbourne and the Cuckoo Trail Jim 01277 654928 Staying at YHA Eastbourne. An ideal location for a walk to Beachy Head and the Seven Sisters. Bring your bike if you'd like to cycle the Cuckoo Trail, a picturesque cycle path following the former 'Cuckoo Line' railway track from Heathfield to Eastbourne Park. Deposit £30 please. Wednesday 29th October Illustrated Talk - Ukraine John M John will give an illustrated talk on the Ukraine, a country much at the centre of current events. Join us to hear about this vast country which for a thousand years has been the borderland of Europe, shaped by invaders and conquerors but also defined by the resilience and hospitality of its people.
