Wednesday 2nd October Pub Meal – Three Elms George Another year, another birthday. Lets help ease George into it with a beer and a hearty meal. Meet at the Three Elms Chignal St James CM1 4TZ at 7.30pm to eat or from 9pm for drinks. Please let George know if you’re coming by 25th Sep, so we can book a table. Directions: leave Chelmsford on the A1060 (Rainsford Rd/Roxwell Rd), turn right at lights into Chignall Road, after 1 mile turn left (Mashbury Rd), signposted Chignall St. James. The Three Elms is on the right after another mile, see map. Sunday 6th October Waverley Paddle Steamer Cruise George Travel on the last sea-going paddle steamer in the world. Waverley Excursion Depart Harwich 1030, follow the Essex coast and Thames Estuary, sail through Tower Bridge, arriving London Tower Pier at 1900. Return by coach to Harwich at 2100. Fare is £47 (£45 for seniors). Money to Dave P by 28th Aug if you want be included in the group booking (10% discount if we get 10 people). Wednesday 9th October Committee Meeting Planning future trips and events. Sunday 13th October Hadleigh Walk John M Join John for a walk along the Hadleigh and Leigh coastline, an often unremarked stretch that in fact has much to offer. We will visit Two Tree island (of Joseph Conrad fame) and its bird reserve, hike to Canvey (largely founded by Dutch engineers), visit Hadleigh castle and have tea & cockles at Old Leigh. Meet in the car park on Two Tree island (not in the car park behind Leigh Station) at 10.30 and bring sandwiches. Wednesday 16th October The Lion, Boreham Ali It’s Dave’s birthday. He fancied a big pie and the Lion does the best pies in Essex (along with a varied selection of other meal choices!). Let us know by 9th Oct if you want to join us as we’ll need to book if there are more than 10 of us. Meet at 7pm at The Lion Inn, Main Road, Boreham, Chelmsford, Essex, CM3 3JA. Friday 18th to Sunday 20th October Bradwell Village, Milton Keynes Celebrating 10 years since our last visit to YHA Milton Keynes - when we marked Dave P's 40th birthday. Everyone is welcome to help Dave celebrate again. YHA Milton Keynes is an attractive converted 18th century farmhouse with great access to both the city and countryside. Nearby attractions include Bletchley Park, site of the war time codebreakers and the first computer, and Xscape indoor activity centre with skiing, bowling, climbing wall, skydiving and multiscreen cinema. Plus Milton Keynes has over 300 miles of footpaths and cycleways, including the Grand Union Canal and the Ouse Valley Park. Deposit £35 to book your bed for the weekend please.
