Wednesday 3rd October Pub Meal – The Three Elms George Help George celebrate his birthday with a meal at The Three Elms Chignall St James CM1 4TZ 7.30pm to eat or from 9pm for drinks. Directions: leave Chelmsford on the A1060 (Rainsford Rd/Roxwell Rd), turn right at lights into Chignall Road, after 1 mile turn left (Mashbury Rd), signposted Chignall St. James. Friday 5th to Sunday 7th October Alfriston, Sussex Dave J Help Dave J celebrate his big birthday with a weekend on the South Downs. Frog Firle hostel is a Sussex flint house with a Tudor beamed lounge, just a mile from the picturesque village of Alfriston. The Seven Sisters sea cliffs are within easy reach. Deposit £39 please. Wednesday 10th October Annual General Meeting Please make every effort to come to our AGM. We will be reviewing the year’s events and voting on the committee to take us into the next year Sunday 14th October St Peters Way I: Ongar to Margaretting Jim Following the Essex Way a couple of years ago, welcome to CYHA's next long distance walk; St Peter's Way from Norman Ongar Castle to Saxon St Peters-on-the-Wall church at Bradwell on Sea, across a variety of landscape from rural Essex, Hanningfield reservior, ending in the salt marshes of the Dengie peninsula. We’ve split the 42-mile route into 4 stages: Leg I: Ongar to Margaretting, 10 miles. Leg II: Margaretting to Bicknacre, 9 miles. Leg III: Bicknacre to Maylandsea, 11 miles. Leg IV: Maylandsea to St Peter’s 12 miles. Today’s walk is the first of these legs. Meet by the village hall on the Wantz Road in Margaretting at 10am for a car shuffle to the start of the walk. Please bring sandwiches, but hopefully there should be a pub stop on the way too. Wednesday 17th October Committee Meeting We’ll be planning Wednesday evenings for January and trips away for late Spring. Friday 19th to Sunday 21st October Lake District Weekend Trudi / Dave P A weekend in the Lake District to celebrate the memory of Neil Jefferson. Members of Neil’s family will be joining us to climb Helvellyn. Everyone is welcome – even if you didn’t know Neil. We’ll probably travel part way on the Thursday night, and we’re planning to stay at Grasmere Independent Hostel (Broadrayne Farm) on the Friday and Saturday nights. Deposit of £41 will allow us to book you a bed Wednesday 24th October Pub Night: The Queens Head Dave J Fancy a drink? Then join us at The Queens Head is in Lower Anchor Street, Chelmsford, CM2 0AS and we'll be there from about 8.30pm. (Grid Ref TL702063, see map). Sunday 28th October Grafham Water Cycle Ride James Meet at the Fishing Lodge visitor centre just outside Perry village (NGR TL143673, post code PE28 0BX, see map) at 10:30am for a 24 mile cycle ride through charming Cambridgeshire villages and around Grafham Water reservoir. Feel free to bring snacks, but we plan to stop at a pub for lunch. There are at least three car parks for Grafham Water, so make sure you have the right one. There is a small charge for parking. Wednesday 31st October Cuba Slide Show Jim Enjoy the Latin beat of Jim’s recent cycling trip to Cuba. With tropical Caribbean seas, mountains and jungles this is a slide show to make your mouth water!
