The Essex Way – Leg 1

Cressida

Last month we introduced the idea of walking the Essex Way in a series of eight legs. This Sunday walk the first leg from Epping to Willingale (about 11 ½ miles).

Meet in Willingale between the two churches in the main road at 10am. Willingdale is about 7 miles west of Chelmsford, between Roxwell and Fyfield (grid ref TL596074, see map). We’ll then take a few cars to Epping to start the walk. Although there is a pub at Chipping Ongar, we won’t get there till after lunch, so please bring sandwiches.

Highlights include Greensted Church, Ongar castle Willingale Airfield and the 2 Willingale churches.

Wednesday 15th October

Annual General Meeting

The star event of the year! Please make every effort to come to our AGM. We will be reviewing the year’s events and voting on the committee to take us into the next year. As usual, we are looking for nominations for new committee members.

This is a club run by its members, for its members. We’re always keen to find new volunteers to help organise events. It is very important that as many of you as possible come and let us know what you think.

The meeting starts at 8:30pm in the Charles Peters Lounge of the YMCA in Victoria Road, Chelmsford.

Wednesday 22nd October

Committee Meeting

Join us to plan our trips for spring and events for January & February. Everybody welcome.

Friday 24th to Sunday 26th October

Holmbury St Mary & Tanners Hatch

Dave P

A weekend exploring the Surrey Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.  After spending Friday night at Holmbury St Mary hostel, we’ll walk about 8 miles to the famous Tanner’s Hatch hostel, via Leith Hill, the Greensand Way and part of the North Downs Way.  Tanner’s Hatch is a picturesque cottage in the woods, with a great atmosphere. Relaxing in front of an open log fire while enjoying the sounds of the forest, it’s hard to believe you’re so close to London.

On Sunday we’ll return to Holmbury by a different route.
