Wednesday Meetings, Weekends Away & Other Events
Other Forthcoming Events
If you have any suggestions or preferences for trips and events please let the committee know. We have the following planned so far:
Friday 1st to Sunday 3rd November
The Chilterns National Trust bunkhouse is a rustic restored barn surrounded by woodland on the Ashridge Estate near Tring. Despite its rural location, there are a couple of pubs within walking distance. Also Ivinghoe Beacon, the Ridgeway, Icknield Way and Chilterns Way paths are nearby. The Ashridge Estate is likely to be good for autumn colours in early November.
£42 deposit to book a bed
Friday 29th November to Sunday 1st December
Weekend in Oxford
Visit the City of Dreaming Spires, staying at YHA Oxford. Purpose-built hostel located close to the railway station in the heart of the city. Explore historic colleges, museums and pubs.
We also plan to walk a section of the Thames path, heading upstream from Oxford.
£50 deposit to book a bed please.
Saturday 21st December
Our plan is the usual mix of fun, food and dancing, starting at 7:30pm at Chignal St James village hall (Mashbury Road, CM1 4TS). Please bring drinks and some food to share. We are planning a quiz and a photo caption competition, plus Dave's running a slide show of this year's activities. Please email Dave with any photo contributions and bring along any prints you have which are crying out for a witty caption.
To find it (grid ref TL665108, see map) take the A1060 (Rainsford Rd./Roxwell Rd.) out of Chelmsford; turn right at lights into Chignall Rd., after 1 mile turn left (Mashbury Rd) signposted Chignall St. James. Hall is on the left after almost 2 miles.
Please let Cress know if you're coming and what food you'll bring.
Friday 27th December 2019 to Wednesday 1st January 2020
For New Year, we will be staying at the National Trust's Exmoor Bunkhouse. At Countisbury Hill on the fringes of Exmoor, there are miles of coastal hikes and moorland walks on the doorstep. The bunkhouse, a converted barn, provides comfortable accommodation surrounded by dramatic valleys, rugged moorland and an impressive rocky coastline, There's a pub, The Blue Ball Inn, just a few yards away, and the nearby towns of Lynton and Lynmouth are well worth visiting.
£40 deposit to book a bed.
Thursday 9th to Tuesday 14th April 2020
Easter in the Lake District
We'll be staying in the Carlisle Diocesan Youth Centre at St John's-in-the-Vale, nestled in the North Lakeland hills 4 miles from Keswick.
£40 deposit to book a bed.
23rd to 30th May 2020
Casa La Negra is a large villa in a secluded spot overlooking the Sierra Tejadas National Park, near the villages of Baños de Vilo and Periana, about 50 minutes' drive from Malaga Airport.
We expect the total cost of the week to be less than £400, including flights and car hire.
Please contact Cressida if you want more details.
