Canal Walk

Dave P

A walk through the heart of Essex, from Chelmsford to Heybridge Basin, along the towpath of the Chelmer and Blackwater Navigation. The walk is about 14 miles.

We’ll probably stop for tea in the afternoon at Paper Mill lock, and finish with a pint at The Old Ship, but please bring sandwiches for lunch.

Meet at the Heybridge Basin Daisy Meadow car park (grid ref TL870069, see map) at 10:00am (Heybridge Basin is signposted from the B1026 between Heybridge and Goldhanger). We’ll leave most of our cars at Heybridge Basin, and organise lifts to Chelmsford, to walk back to Heybridge.

Pub walk - Boreham

Meet outside the Queen’s Head, next to the church, in Church Road, Boreham at 7:30pm for a 4 mile walk out to Papermill Lock and back to the pub for a night cap. We should be back before dark, but best bring a torch just in case. Parking at the pub is a bit limited, but there’s plenty of parking round the corner in Plantation Rd or Juniper Rd.
