Wednesday 1st May Pub Night plus Walk Meet in the car park at Hylands Park (off A414 between Widford and Writtle, grid ref TL680047, see map) at 7.30pm (prompt) for an hours walk before adjourning to the Inn on the Green, Writtle, for a well-earned bevvy. Please feel free to join us for either the healthy bit, the boozy bit, or both. Friday 3rd to Monday 6th May Pembrokeshire Coast Towering cliffs, rugged headlands, quiet coves and beaches. Seals can be seen in the area as can peregrine falcons and other unusual birds and plants. The cathedral city of St.David's and picturesque Fishguard are not far away. There is a cheese making at Llangloffan and boat trips to Ramsey island. Friday and Saturday nights at Trefin hostel, a former village school in the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park. On Sunday, optional 9 mile walk along the coast path to Pwll Deri. Sunday night at Pwll Deri hostel (or "Pool of Oaks") on the Pembrokeshire Coast Path - idyllic setting perched on a 400ft cliff top with spectacular views and glorious sunsets. For drinkers there is a pub at Trefin - not sure about Pwll Deri so stock up! There is no mention of tea shops in the blurb I have but there must be some! It would be a good idea to take at least a half day off on the Friday so we can get there at a reasonable time but if you can't we will try to work something out with the warden for letting latecomers in. Some of us may also stay Monday night at Pwll Deri. £27 deposit please. Total cost around £60. Wednesday 8th May Book Review Whether it's heartrending text, shocking facts or gorgeous pictures; fact, fiction, fantasy, travel, autobiography - any book that has made an impression on you, bring it along to share with us. Wednesday 15th May Committee Meeting Please come and join us, everyone is welcome. Tonight we will be looking at Wednesday events for July and walks and weekends away for late summer. Sunday 19th May Three Counties Walk Celebrate Spring with a walk for charity across some of Surrey, Sussex and Kent's finest countryside. Michelle is now working for the National Centre for Young People with Epilepsy (NCYPE) at Lingfield in Surrey, and has suggested that we join her in this fundraising event. NCYPE provides education, treatment and care for more than 200 young people with complex epilepsy from across the UK. The leisurely ten-mile stroll will start and finish at NCYPE with a welcome break at a local inn en route. The entry fee is £5, and any additional donations or sponsorship will be welcome. Meet at 10.30am at NCYPE, St Piers Lane, Lingfield (an hour from Chelmsford via J6 M25). Please let Michelle know if you'd like to come. Wednesday 22nd May First Aid The Red Cross will be coming along to demonstrate resuscitation skills on resuss Annie and possibly a few tips on bandaging and the new recovery position. Please turn up before 8.30pm so that Graham from the Red Cross can start promptly. Please be prepared to make a small donation to the Red Cross or abseil down County Hall for them... Wednesday 29th May Scotland Warm up Whether you are joining us for the Bank holiday trip or not you will enjoy a fabulous evening featuring a slide show of highlights from previous Scotland trips plus a light-hearted quiz. Anyone wishing to bring haggis and a fine single malt will be especially welcome. Note: Unless otherwise stated, Wednesday events start at 8.30pm at the YMCA in Victoria Road, Chelmsford |
