Programme

Wednesday Meetings, Weekends Away & Other Events

March 2012

Friday 2nd to Sunday 4th March

Ridgeway Hostel

Ridgeway, Oxfordshire

The Court Hill Centre, formerly YHA Ridgeway, Letcombe Regis, Wantage, Oxfordshire.

This hostel sits on the Ridgeway long distance path on the chalk downs above the old town of Wantage. The building itself is a modern purpose built hostel constructed from wooden barns which have been moved to the site; it has small rooms and a sunken lounge with a wood burner.

The area is known for the Ridgeway trail, and neolithic sites such as Waylands Smithy, and the White Horse of Uffington. There are plenty of options for walks in the beautiful countryside of the Thames Valley and the Berkshire Downs.

Directions: From M4, take junction 14, and follow A338 towards Wantage. After 9 miles turn left into Court Hill Road and the Centre is on the left (grid ref SU393851, postcode OX12 9NE, see map).

Deposit of £30 will book your place. Total cost for the weekend is expected to be about £57, including bed, meals and petrol contribution.

Mountain Safety and Navigation

Dave P

Brush up on your map reading and compass skills in time for our super trip to the Lakes. Knowing where you are, how you got there and how to get home can be a lifesaver on the hills. We recommend all our members have a basic understanding of mountain navigation – you never know when you might need it!

Note: Unless otherwise stated, Wednesday events start at 8.30pm at the YMCA in Victoria Road, Chelmsford
