Wednesday 1st March Pub Night: The Bell Voted best pub in Essex and known for it's tradition of hanging hot cross buns from the ceiling, this one is a must to visit. The Bell Inn is just off the A128 at Horndon on the Hill, south west of Basildon, see map. Sunday 5th March Walk: Layer Marney & Messing Fiona Why not come along for an 8 mile walk on Sunday 5th March through firs and ferns and visit a well-preserved 15th century tower. The plan is to meet at 10.30 outside the church of St Mary the Virgin which is next to the Layer Marney Tower, Messing. (grid ref TL927174, see map). Lunch is at The Old Crown Inn, Messing which has delicious meals including vegetarian, if you would like a meal please let Fiona know before Monday 27th February 2006. Wednesday 8th March Family Fortunes Cressida, as the natural successor to Bob Monkhouse, Max Bygraves and Les Dennis, will be hosting an entertaining quiz based on the TV game-show Family Fortunes. Contestants are asked to guess the most popular answers to questions posed in a survey. No intellectual ability required! Wednesday 15th March Committee Meeting We will be trip planning for the Summer and organising Wednesday evening activities for May. Sunday 19th March Archery at Danbury Outdoor Centre Learn archery at the Danbury Outdoor Centre. Cost is about £14 each, including instruction. There may be some places left - check with Cressida. Even if you can't come for the archery, you're welcome to join us for lunch and/or an afternoon stroll. Meet at the Danbury Outdoor Centre, Well Lane, Danbury at 9:30am for the archery, The Bell public house at 1pm for a tasty lunch and about 2:00pm for a short walk. Wednesday 22nd March Card Games Clive Join us for an evening of Whist, Gin, Old Maid, Chase the Ace and any other games you'd like to play. No experience necessary, however if you do have the rules to a particularly fine game - bring them along! Friday 24th to Sunday 26th March New Forest We're staying in "The Barn" at Foxlease near Lyndhurst in the New Forest. Foxlease is a Girlguiding activity centre set in 65 acres of beautiful land situated on the edge of Lyndhurst village. The barn has central heating and is fully equipped for 24 people. You need to bring a sleeping bag. There are four bedrooms of different sizes rooms fitted with bunk beds and en-suite toilets and showers. The kitchen has recently been re-fitted and there is a large main hall. From the M3 / M27 take the M271 then A35 to Lyndhurst. In Lyndhurst take the A337 towards Brockenhurst. Foxlease is signposted on the right-hand side just beyond the one-way system. Deposit of £20 to book please. Total cost will be about £32 for food, bed and petrol. Wednesday 29th March Turkey Slide Show, part 2 Join us for the remainder of our trip to Turkey. This part has us soaring in the skies over Cappodocia in a spectacular hot-air balloon ride.
