Wednesday 5th June Curry Night - Billericay Jim Join Jim at the Coach and Horses in Billericay for one of their special curry nights. £9.95 gets you a trio of curries to try, which is probably enough for two people. Meet at 7:30pm (Chapel Street, CM12 9LU, near Waitrose). Let Jim know if you want to come by 29th May. Wednesday 12th June Committee Meeting We’ll be planning Wednesdays for September and trips away for late winter. Friday 14th June Charity Quiz Night Lesley Fundraising for Marie Curie Cancer Care in memory of Neil Jefferson. Lesley is inviting teams of six people at £7.00 a head to a quiz evening at her local school in Chelmsford. Some nibbles will be provided, but please bring along your own drinks/glasses etc. Please contact Dave P if you’d like to join a CYHA team. Wednesday 19th June Midsummer Bike Ride Jim Meet at the Viper, Mill Green at 7.30p.m. for an easy ride along lanes and byways and woodland trails. Post-ride refreshment will be at the Viper PH from 9pm (CM4 0PT for sat-navs, grid ref TL640019, see map). Bring your bike lights in case we're late back. Saturday 22nd June Epping Ongar Railway Gala Dave P Celebrate the 150th birthday of the Underground with a chance to see Steam locomotive Met No. 1 running on our local heritage railway, the Epping Ongar Railway. Meet at Ongar station at 10.30am Tickets are £20 or £18 if booked in advance (eorailway.co.uk). Sunday 23rd June Thaxted Cycle Ride Dave P Meet in the car park in Margaret Street, Thaxted, at 10:30am for a cycle ride of about 30 miles. It can be a bit hilly, but we are guaranteed at least one tea shop. Please bring sandwiches for a picnic. (coming from Dunmow on B184, when you get in to Thaxted, turn right following Car Park & WC signs, see map) Wednesday 26th June Pub Walk – Margaretting Jim Meet at the village hall in Wantz Road, Margaretting CM4 0EP at 7:30pm for a short walk followed by a drink at the Red Lion in the village afterwards. Friday 28th to Sunday 30th June Yorkshire Dales Ali We’re staying at The Old School Bunkhouse at Chapel le Dale on the B6255 Ingleton to Hawes road (postcode LA6 3AR, see map), close to Ribblehead Viaduct, in Yorkshire Dales Limestone country, between Ingleborough and Whernside, with superb views of both. The perfect location for exploring the Yorkshire Dales and climbing Ingleborough, Pen-y-Ghent or Whernside. Some of us are planning to tackle all three peaks in 12 hours – the classic 24-mile challenge walk. Or there are caves and waterfalls to visit, valley walks and plenty of tea shops. Pillows are provided, but you need to bring a sleeping bag. The bunkhouse is on the B6255 Ingleton to Hawes road, 4½ miles from Ingleton (postcode LA6 3AR, grid ref SD742776).
