Wednesday 6th June Pete & Dud: Come Again Spend the evening at the Civic Theatre Chelmsford being entertained by this hit West End Comedy celebrating the rise and fall of the great British comedy partnership of Peter Cook and Dudley Moore. A potent combination of powerful drama and plentiful laughs! (Starts 7.45pm). Meet at 7:30pm at the Civic Theatre, Fairfield Rd, in Chelmsford (car park entrance in Coval Lane). £14 per ticket to Dave P. Wednesday 13th June Committee Meeting We will be trip planning for winter and organising Wednesday evenings for August. Everybody’s welcome. Sunday 17th June Ouse Valley Walk Meet at 10:30am at Houghton Mill (where we ate our lunch last year). We'll walk the Ouse Valley Way to Godmanchester, returning via Hemmingford Abbots to the inviting Tea Shop at the Mill. Anybody who would like further refreshments is welcome back at our house. This is a leisurely walk of about 6 miles, ascent approx 4 feet! Please bring a packed lunch as there are some lovely picnics sites by the rivers and lakes, and we will also be passing a pub. The Mill is in the village of Houghton, signposted off A1123 Huntingdon to St Ives (grid ref TL282720, see map). It’s National Trust and there’s a small charge for car parking (free for NT members). The Mill is also open for milling demonstrations and well worth a look if you haven't already. Wednesday 20th June Pub Night: The Walnut Tree Join us for a drink and hopefully some golden evening sunshine at the lovely Walnut Tree pub at Broads Green (about five miles due north of Chelmsford, TL 693 125, see map). Meet at about 8:30pm. Wednesday 27th June Evening Walk: Langdon Hills Meet at The Crown, Langdon Hills (grid ref TQ681867, see map), and take advantage of those long summer evenings with a 3 ½ mile walk in the surrounding parks & woodlands. 7:30pm at the pub for the walk, about 9ish if you just want to join us for a drink. It may also be possible to wander out a little later, after dark, for some glow worm spotting at One Tree Hill, a couple of miles away. Friday 29th June to Sunday 1st July Clyffe Pypard (Avebury) This comfortable YHA bunkhouse is part of one of the oldest pubs in Wiltshire. The area is a haven for walkers and cyclists, with the Ridgeway path nearby. Also visit Avebury to see the world-famous stone circle at the heart of a prehistoric landscape. One of the most important megalithic monuments in Europe. Clyffe Pypard is 5m from J16 M4: take Wootton Bassett road into town centre. Turn left at black & white building. After 2m turn right at sign for Clyffe Pypard. Follow winding road for 2m, then turn left at sign. Bunkhouse attached to the Goddard Arms pub. YHA Signs will be found! (OS Landranger 173, grid ref 074 768). You will need to bring a sleeping bag. Deposit £22 to book your place (total cost about £45).
