Pub Walk

Jim

Meet at 7.30pm in the car park opposite the Cricketers pub at Mill Green, Fryerning (near Ingatestone) Grid ref TL639013 (see map). A beautiful evening walk on Mill Green Common. Expect to work up a thirst and be quenching it in the bar by 9pm.

Sunday 8th June

Go Ape in the Forest

Marion

Go Ape

"Adventure Forest": Marion has arranged another day of Aerial Trekking in Thetford Forest (see some pictures from last time). This is for 14 people, which is the maximum per time slot, at 11:30am. It's £14.50 per person. Pay on the day, but contact Marion if you want a place because numbers are strictly limited.

Mike goes Ape

Discover the pleasures of Aerial Trekking high above the forest floor. Travel from tree to tree through the heart of Thetford Forest using rope bridges, scramble nets, bosun's chairs etc. No special skill required and safety lifelines are used at all times. You must be taller than 4'7".

Meet at the High Lodge Forest Centre just off the B1107 East of Brandon for 11am (to be kitted out for an 11:30 start).

Wednesday 11th June

Committee Meeting

Everyone welcome. We will be discussing Wednesday nights for August and weekends away for late Summer/Autumn. All suggestions welcome.

Wednesday 18th June

Midsummer Cycle Ride

Jim

Meet at the YMCA at 7:30pm for a quacking cycle ride through the park to Writtle and Highwood, in order to work up a thirst for a pint at the Duck pub Newney Green (grid ref. TL651070, see map). Then we return through Writtle back to Chelmsford. Total distance about 13 miles. It will probably be dark when we come out of the pub, so don't forget your bike lights for the ride back.

21st and 22nd June

Jordans Hostel, Buckinghamshire

Jordans hostel

Dave P

Following on from our award winning work at this hostel last year (see pictures), Nicola, the Warden at Jordans, has lots for us to do. General gardening chores plus a bit of painting, slab-laying tree-felling. Enormous fun to do with plenty of tea and cakes to fuel the workers.

The first eight volunteers get a free overnight on the Friday and Saturday. It's also close enough to come over for a day if you can't make the whole weekend.

Our prize money from last year will subsidise Saturday's evening meal, but I'm collecting £4 each to cover other meals and refreshments.

Wednesday 25th June

Picnic in the Park

Hylands Park

Ali

Celebrate the fact that summer is here and join us at Hylands Park for a shared picnic. You are encouraged to bring kites and balls and any other piece of equipment that will add to our enjoyment of a lovely summer's evening.

We will be sitting on the grass between the old car park and the house. For a more exact location on the day, please ring Dave P who will have his mobile on him.

Park closes at sunset, at which point there will be the option to move on to the Inn on the Green, Writtle.

Friday 27th to Sunday 29th June 2003

Blaxhall, Suffolk

Blaxhall hostel

John

Near Woodbridge in rural Suffolk, this traditional hostel was once the village school. As well as great cycling and walking country, you'll find estuaries, coastline and forest. The splendid Ship Inn is just a short stroll from the hostel.

Places to visit nearby include the seaside towns of Aldeburgh and Thorpeness, Snape Maltings, the castle at Orford, and the Anglo-Saxon ship burial at Sutton Hoo.

£23 deposit to book your bed please. Total cost £34.

Note: Unless otherwise stated, Wednesday events start at 8.30pm at the YMCA in Victoria Road, Chelmsford
