Please see our COVID Policy for trips Friday 1st to Sunday 3rd July Truleigh Hill, South Downs Dave P Truleigh Hill hostel is an unusual building high up on the South Downs, 4 miles north of Shoreham in Sussex. Built as a summer-house on brick stilts in the 1930s, it has since been modernized and extended. It has magnificent views across the hills towards Devil's Dyke. You can follow the South Downs Way footpath, which passes the hostel, to the hill fort on Devil's Dyke, and via the Clayton Windmills (Jack and Jill) up to Ditchling Beacon. Directions: From A27 take the A283 to Shoreham. Turn left at mini roundabout (by Red Lion and Amsterdam Inn). 400 yards turn left (signpost). 2nd right (Signpost). 2 miles sharp right hand bend, further 1 mile, hostel just after the trees. Everybody welcome. Wednesday 13th July Pub Walk - Stock Jim Meet in the Village Hall (CM4 9LR ///jets.booth.silks) car park at 7.30pm for a short walk followed by a drink at Bakers Arms pub. Wednesday 20th July Hylands Park – Picnic & Games Jim Meet in the Writtle bypass car park, near “Mauros In The Park” café and the children's play area at 7.30 pm (///crunch.boots.scuba). Bring a picnic to eat and some games to play. If the weather is uncooperative, the Rose & Crown in Writtle is the wet weather option. Sunday 24th July Sudbury to Bures Nigel A scenic slice through Suffolk & Essex with a walk from Sudbury to Bures, taking the train back at the end. Meet at Sudbury leisure (Station Rd, Sudbury CO10 2SU ///drifting.discloses.clocks) centre at 10:30am (free parking). Please bring sandwiches, but there is likely to a refreshment opportunity at the Lamarsh Lion PH en route. Wednesday 27th July Terling Pub Walk Cress Park by Terling Village Hall (The Dismals, CM3 2PS, ///consonant.vest.downcast) and meet outside the Rayleigh Arms in Terling at 7.30pm for a walk of 3-4 miles with a drink in the pub afterwards. Friday 29th to Sunday 31st July Castle Acre, Norfolk Jim Join us for a weekend walking and cycling in Norfolk. We are staying in the lovely Old Red Lion hostel, a 17th Century former pub in the Norman walled village of Castle Acre near Swaffham. This beautiful historic village has the remains of a castle and a priory as well as a choice of pubs and tearooms. Nearby is the moated manor house Oxburgh Hall, and the coast is about 20 miles away. Castle Acre is on both the Peddar's and Nar Valley Way. Great for walkers and cyclists. Castle Acre is 3¼ miles north of Swaffham.
