Wednesday Meetings, Weekends Away & Other Events
Other Forthcoming Events
If you have any suggestions or preferences for trips and events please let the committee know. We have the following planned so far:
Sunday 4th July
Broomway Guided Walk
The Broomway is a public right of way which starts from Wakering Stairs on the coast near Shoeburyness, and heads out to sea traversing the tidal sand and mud flats of Maplin Sands, leading to Foulness island. A unique and beautiful route, but there are dangers from the incoming tide, quicksand, fog and unexploded ordnance. So we'll be doing this walk with an experienced local guide! It's a walk of about 6 miles, taking in the best of the Broomway and stopping for tea and biscuits on Asplins Head, Foulness.
£30 to book your place.
Friday 27th to Monday 30th August (Bank Holiday Weekend)
Slaidburn is a charming and secluded village, off the main tourist routes, on the edge of the Forest of Bowland in the Lancashire Pennines. The Forest of Bowland is a relatively undiscovered Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty dominated by gritstone fells and vast tracts of heather-covered moorland.
This small hostel was once the 17th Century Black Bull Inn in the centre of the village and provides a good base for walks avoiding the bank holiday crowds. Pub and teashop nearby.
£60 deposit please.
Friday 1st to Monday 4th October
Buckden, Yorkshire Dales
A long weekend at the National Trust Town Head Bunkhouse awaits. The wind in our hair and grass beneath our feet, and hills, actual hills!
We've booked this converted barn, in the small village of Buckden, Upper Wharfedale, for three nights.
Deposit £40 please. It's a small bunkhouse, and we don't yet know how many we be able to accommodate safely and legally, but places will be allocated in order of deposits received.
Tuesday 28th December 2021 to
Dinefwr Bunkhouse, Wales
Dinefwr Bunkhouse is a stylishly rustic bunkhouse on the National Trust Dinefwr Park estate, overshadowed by the mighty Dinefwr Castle. Near Llandeilo on the western edge of the Brecon Beacons National Park.
Deposit £50 to book your place.
