Wednesday Meetings, Weekends Away & Other Events

July 2018

Sunday 1st July

Try Kayaking

John W

John is hosting a taster session of kayaking on the beautiful, quiet creeks of the River Crouch. We use stable, unsinkable, sit on kayaks. You do not need rollover training!

Don't worry if you have no experience on water as there will be instruction and a safety briefing before we go out. Tea and cakes in the clubhouse afterwards, with stunning views over the river.

£3.00 per person to cover hire of kayak and buoyancy aid - pay on the day. Limited to 10 people. MUST be booked in advance - please email John W.

Meet South Woodham Ferrers Yacht Club, Marsh Farm Road, CM3 5WP at 2pm.

Wednesday 4th July

Pub walk - The Queen's Head

Ali

Meet outside the Queen's Head, Boreham (CM3 3EG) at 7:30pm for a walk down to the river and Papermill Lock, before returning for a drink at about 9ish. The pub is quite tucked away, next to the church, with parking in the streets nearby.

Wednesday 11th July

Committee Meeting

Meeting Cancelled (Many of the committee want to watch TV tonight).

Saffron Trail waymark

Sunday 15th July

Saffron Trail pt V

Dave J

As this was postponed from March and we now have a bit more daylight, we've extended this to 12 miles. Meet at Gt Easton, near the village hall CM6 2HF, at 10am for a car shuffle to the start of the walk at Littley Green. Please bring sandwiches, but a pub or tearoom in Dunmow is likely.

Wednesday 18th July

Bike Ride, Galleywood Common

Jim

Meet at the car park on Galleywood Common (note height restriction!) at 7:30pm for 1½ hour bike ride. We'll be at the White Hart in Margaretting Tye at about 8:45 for a drink. You'll need lights for the last bit back to the cars.

West Park Pitch and Putt

Wednesday 25th July

Pitch & Putt

Jim

Meet at West Park Pitch & Putt in Chelmsford, CM1 2RY at 7:30 pm for a round of something approaching golf. Refreshments from 9pm at the Black Bull in Rainsford Road. Cost about £5.

Darsham Country Centre

Friday 27th to Sunday 29th July

Darsham, Suffolk

Jim

A summer weekend cycling or walking in the Suffolk countryside. Darsham Country Centre near Saxmundham is the old Station Master's House at Darsham railway station. Providing comfortable hostel-style accommodation, the location is convenient for visits to the Suffolk coast at Southwold, Aldeburgh, Minsmere bird reserve and Walberswick. We could also visit Ipswich for art, history and culture. We'll probably have a barbecue on the Saturday evening.

The Centre is on the station and on the A12, so easy to get to by car or train. Postcode IP17 3PL. It has several 4 and 5 bed rooms and two single rooms.

Deposit £25 please (Estimated total about £48).

Note: Unless otherwise stated, Wednesday events start at 8.30pm at the YMCA in Victoria Road, Chelmsford
