Wednesday 4^th July

Evening Cycle - Viper

Jim

Meet at the Viper, Mill Green at 7.30p.m. for an easy ride along lanes and byways and woodland trails. Post-ride refreshment will be at the Viper PH from 9pm (CM4 0PT for sat-navs, grid ref TL640019, see map).

Friday 6^th to Sunday 8^th July

Stour Valley

We’ll be staying at Stour Valley Bunkhouse near Brantham in Suffolk. On a working farm on the Stour estuary (on the edge of Constable Country, not far from Manningtree), this is a comfortable hostel which was very popular when we stayed there 3 years ago. Some of us will take our bikes, and some will explore the countryside on foot. There is an excellent network of footpaths and the Coastal path runs along the shore to Dedham Vale. Seafield Bay, 5 minutes from the Bunkhouse is well known to birdwatchers and nearby Alton Water offers walks and cycling, with cycles available to hire. There are waymarked cycle routes on quiet roads throughout the district.

Directions: From Manningtree station follow A137 2½ miles north, through Brantham village, then turn right through white gates. TM120340, CO11 1PT.

Deposit of £28 to book (total about £45).

Committee Meeting

Come and join us. We’ll be looking for events for October and weekend trips for winter.

Wednesday 18^th July

Evening Walk - Ongar

Starting from the Budworth Hall car park in Chipping Ongar at 7:30pm (large car parks on both sides of High St. A128, grid ref TL552031, see map) , we’ll be taking a lovely walk of 3 or 4 miles out to Greensted Church (oldest wooden church in the world) and back. We should be propping up the bar in The Cock in Ongar from about 9pm.

Sunday 22^nd July

Sunday Walk – Gosfield

Jim

A superb walk from Gosfield, near Sible Hedingham, out to the village of Beazley End and back. The route is about 9¾ miles with a pub about half way round, but please bring sandwiches for lunch.

Meet at the playing fields car park, Church Rd, Gosfield (grid ref TL781296, nearest post code CO9 1TL, see map) at 10:30am.

Wednesday 25^th July

Prezzo - Chelmsford

Jim

Join Jim for a tasty bite of Italy, but from the convenience of Prezzo, Bond Street (down by the River Chelmer, between Tesco and Riverside Leisure Centre). The plan is to meet at 7:30pm. Alfresco dining by the river if the weather’s good!

Let Jim know if you’re coming by 18^th July as we will probably need to book a table.

Note: Unless otherwise stated, Wednesday events start at 8.30pm at the YMCA in Victoria Road, Chelmsford
