Saturday 31st July & Sunday 1st August

Chelmsford Centenary Circle

Dave J

Centenary Circle waymark

The Chelmsford Centenary Circle is a 22 mile route which circumnavigates Chelmsford. We’re planning to walk it in two sections over the weekend. The route was created in 1988 to mark 100 years of Chelmsford as a Borough. Although much of the walk is close to Chelmsford, it is surprisingly rural with a mixture of woodland and farmland.

Saturday - meet at Galleywood Common car park (on B1007 Stock Road, TL704022, see map) at 10am for a car shuffle to the start in Springfield. We will then walk the first half of the Circle back to Galleywood via the Chelmer & Blackwater navigation, Sandon and Great Baddow.

Sunday - meet at Galleywood Common car park at 10 am for the second half of the circle back to Springfield via Hylands Park, Writtle, the western edge of Melbourne and Broomfield.

We did the walk last year and it is well worth the effort with some fine views especially in the bottom half of the walk and you can then say you have completed a long distance path!

Please let Dave J know if you are coming to help with working out the car shuffle options in advance. Bring sandwiches on both days.

There is no need to do both legs but it may be more rewarding if you do.

Note: Unless otherwise stated, Wednesday events start at 8.30pm at the YMCA in Victoria Road, Chelmsford
