Ongar Pub Walk
Starting from the Budworth Hall car park in Chipping Ongar at 7:30pm (large car parks on both sides of High St. A128, grid ref TL552031, see map) , we’ll be taking a lovely walk of 3 or 4 miles out to Greensted Church (oldest wooden church in the world) and back. We should be propping up the bar in The Cock in Ongar from about 9pm.
Wednesday 15th July
Join us to plan our trips for late winter and events for October & November. Everybody welcome.
Sunday 19th July
Meet at 10:30 am outside the Co-Op Food Store, off Marley Road in St Ives, grid ref TL312736, see map. Plenty of parking available. From here, following an elongated figure of eight route, we will amble through pleasant farmland to the pretty villages of Woodhurst and Pidley, before returning to St Ives. Distance is approx 9 miles, and assent negligible, however if the walk proves too much we can always call out the Pidley Mountain Rescue Team!!! Please bring a packed lunch (or supplies can be purchased from the afore mentioned Co-Op), and we will be passing a pub en route. Everybody welcome back to ours for tea and cakes afterwards.
Wednesday 22nd July
Hanningfield Cycle Ride
Meet at The Three Compasses PH at West Hanningfield (Grid ref TQ727997, 5 miles south of Chelmsford, see map) at 7:30pm for a cycle ride round the reservoir before returning to the pub for some well-earned refreshment.
Wednesday 29th July
Slide Show: Hiking on Gran Canaria
John will give a slideshow and talk on hiking on Gran Canaria - one of the Atlantic's secret gems for walking. We will look at scenery, trails, the topography and the history of this extraordinary island, which is a competitor for the title 'Atlantis'. Hear about the mysterious Guanches (about whom so much has been written but so little actually known) and the role of the island in modern Spain.
Note: Unless otherwise stated, Wednesday events start at 8.30pm at the YMCA in Victoria Road, Chelmsford
