West Park Pitch and Putt

Wednesday 4th July

Pitch ‘n’ Putt

Dave J

An evening of something vaguely resembling golf! Meet in the car park of West Park Pitch and Putt, Waterhouse Lane, Chelmsford (see map) at 7.30pm if you want a game, or 9pm at the Black Bull pub in Rainsford Road if you just fancy a pint. Cost: approx. £4.

Wednesday 11th July

Committee meeting

We will be trip planning for winter and organising Wednesday evenings for September. Everybody’s welcome.

Sunday 15th July

Walk: The Pelhams

Dave P

A walk of about 8 miles visiting some of Hertfordshire’s prettiest villages: Furneux Pelham, Brent Pelham and Stocking Pelham.

There are pubs at each of the Pelhams, so there should be plenty of refreshment opportunities, but please bring sandwiches for lunch.

Meet at 10.30am at the Brewery Tap pub in Furneux Pelham (grid ref TL432279, see map, about 6 miles NW from Bishop’s Stortford).

Wednesday 18th July

Evening Cycle: Billericay to Stock

Jim

Join us for a pleasant cycle on a circuitous route around Billericay ending up at the Hoop in Stock. After a well-earned drink (or two) we’ll cycle back to Billericay on a more direct route. Please bring lights for the ride home.

Meet at 7:30pm in the Billericay High Street car park, behind Woolworth's, on the right hand side if you are coming from Chelmsford.

Maldon

Wednesday 25th July

Evening Walk: Heybridge Basin

Jim

What could be nicer than a summer’s evening down by the sea wall in Heybridge to take in those sweet breezes as they blow in from the estuary. Meet at Heybridge Basin car park (grid ref TL870069) at 7:30pm for the walk of 4 or 5 miles, or 9:30ish at the Old Ship pub for a welcome drink.

Friday 27th to Sunday 29th July

Blaxhall, Suffolk

Jim

This hostel is the former village school on the edge of the Suffolk Sandlings, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, with easy walking and flat cycling routes as well as the nearby bird reserves of Minsmere and Orfordness.

Other attractions in the area include Snape Maltings, the castles at Framlingham and Orford, and the seaside delights of Aldeburgh and Southwold.

We plan to bring bicycles and explore some of the quiet country lanes, but non-cyclists are also welcome.

Directions to this hostel: Leave A12 at Wickham Market, follow signs to Tunstall (B1078) and then to hostel.

£28 to book your bed. Expected total about £50.

Note: Unless otherwise stated, Wednesday events start at 8.30pm at the YMCA in Victoria Road, Chelmsford
