Sunday 17th January Essex Way (part 6) Whether you’ve joined us for all or none of the previous legs of the Essex Way, come for a delightful walk from Great Horkesley to Dedham. Meet at Dedham in the large car park on Mill Lane (B1029 at grid ref TM059334) at 10am. We’ll share lifts to Great Horkesley and walk just over 9 miles into the beautiful Vale of Dedham. Bring sandwiches for lunch. Wednesday 20th January Slide Show: Alaska Doug Don’t miss Doug’s pictures of his travels in Alaska last year. Discover the unspoilt beauty of this North American wilderness, plus heart-stopping images of big, grizzly bears. (see also Doug's Travels in Alaska) Sunday 24th January 2010 Visit to Broadcasting House Following last years popular visit to BBC Television Centre we have arranged a visit to BBC Broadcasting House, the home of broadcast radio in this country. Built in 1932, Broadcasting House was the UK's first ever purpose-built broadcast centre, and it is now undergoing major restoration and modernisation. Tours (which last approximately one and a half hours) focus on the newly restored art deco building, and feature famous heritage spaces as well as the latest digital workspaces. Walk the famous corridors and take a peek into the newly restored Radio Theatre and the Council Chamber. See into some of the radio studios used by your favourite radio programmes. And you might even be able to have a go at making your own radio drama, complete with music and sound effects! Meet outside BBC Broadcasting House, Portland Place , London at 2pm prompt. (Underground to Oxford Circus, five-minute walk north up Regent Street). To book a place on the tour, please send £9.50 to Dave P. Wednesday 27th January Quiz Night at The Chelmer Tavern Exercise those little grey cells by forming part of Helen’s quiz team. The fun starts at 9pm, but if you come at 7:30 you can sample the Tav’s delicious menu. Note: Unless otherwise stated, Wednesday events start at 8.30pm at the YMCA in Victoria Road, Chelmsford |
