Jim's Cycle Slide Show Join us for a cycle ride across Belgium and Holland without having to do any pedalling! The slides are of Jim's fabulous cycling trip in September (see Jim's story and website). The King's Army Whitehall Parade "Each year, on the last Sunday of January, all the regiments of the King's Army of the English Civil War Society join to commemorate the execution or "horrid murder.." of the King by parading close by to the original route walked by His Majesty - that is from St.James' Palace to Whitehall and then to the Banqueting House. Here, under the spot where the scaffold was originally erected in 1649, a service is held in memory of the martyred King." The soldiers of The King's Army provide a colourful spectacle witnessed by thousands spectators. If you'd like to see the parade, meet us at Liverpool Street beneath the Indicator Board at 1045. Wednesday 29th January Megazone Work off a few of those Christmas pounds with an evening running around Megazone shooting at your friends with special lasers. Good tactics and a strong sneaky streak a must. Meet in the United Brethren Pub (New Writtle Street, see map) just opposite 8 to 8.30 pm (and probably afterwards as well if you don't fancy shooting your friends). Lynn needs to know who's coming at least a week in advance to confirm the booking. Cost is £3.50 for 1 game. Bradenham A simple hostel in the old school building on the edge of the green in this National Trust village in the Chiltern Hills. There are many waymarked footpaths through the Chiltern beechwoods to explore, as well as many local attractions such as Hughenden Manor, the home of Benjamin Disraeli for 30 years. £18 to book a bed. Total cost will be about £30. Note: Unless otherwise stated, Wednesday events start at 8.30pm at the YMCA in Victoria Road, Chelmsford |
