Wednesday Meetings, Weekends Away & Other Events

January 2002

Wednesday 2nd January

Pub Night ~ The Star & Garter

Lorna

After New Year how about a hair of the dog down at the Star and Garter (in Moulsham Street). Collect in the bar from about 8:30pm.

Wednesday 9th January

From a Tree to a House

Trudi

Join Trudi for a mind expanding lecture on conservation provided by our local National Trust Centre. These talks are always first rate and very interesting. Meet at the Cramphorn Theatre (Fairfield Rd, behind the bus station) at 7:30pm (talk starts 7:45). There is a nominal charge for entry of a couple of pounds and tickets are normally on sale in the theatre foyer.

Sunday 13th January

Danbury Walk

Trudi

Time to blow those winter cobwebs away with a bracing walk round Danbury Common and woods. If you think this might work off a few of those Christmas pounds - think again! Lunch is at The Cricketers at about 1pm (let Trudi know if you want a meal so she can book a table).

Meet outside the YMCA at 10am or 10:30 at the National Trust car park near The Cricketers PH in Danbury (A414 from Chelmsford, turn right opposite the Bell Inn in Danbury (Well Lane), left at end, car park on left after ¼ mile, grid ref TL779046, see map).

Wednesday 16th January

Committee Meeting

Join us for another fun-packed evening sorting out the programme for March and trips for the coming summer. Everybody is welcome.

Wednesday 23rd January

Party Games

Lynn

Just to prove that older doesn't necessarily mean more mature, Lynn will be celebrating her birthday at the YMCA with a variety of fun-packed party games. Knowing Lynn this could be messy, so be sure not to wear your best suit.

Wednesday 30th January

South Africa Slide Show

Ali

Cape Town and Table Mountain from Robben Island ferry

At the beginning of November, six of us went to the farthest reaches of the continent of Africa and endured enormous hardships (well, large meals anyway) so that we could bring you this awe-inspiring slide show. No lions or elephants, but astounding flora and fauna, mighty mountains, golden beaches, whales, penguins, baboons and steam trains. This is one not to be missed.

Note: Unless otherwise stated, Wednesday events start at 8.30pm at the YMCA in Victoria Road, Chelmsford
