Wednesday 3rd February Pub night – The Prince of Wales Cress Join us for a drink and a catch up at The Prince of Wales pub, Mountnessing CM15 0UG. Pub is situated on the old A12 that runs through the middle of Mountnessing (see map). As usual, we’ll be there from about 8:30pm. Saturday 6th February 2016 Visit to Aldwych Underground Station Clive Clive has obtained some hard-to-get tickets for a visit to disused Aldwych Underground station. Used as an air raid shelter, a film set and a training facility, the station closed in 1994, but London Transport Museum run occasional tours. An opportunity not to be missed. Meet at 12:30pm at the junction of The Strand and Surrey Street. Tickets are now all sold out. LATE NEWS: Due to planned RMT industrial action, this event has been cancelled. We will try to organise an alternative date or refunds for those who have booked. Wednesday 10th February Committee Meeting Planning events for May and trips for the Autumn. Please feel free to join us at the Crown in Sandon. Sunday 14th February Sunday walk – Maldon Chris Meet in the Butt Lane car park (CM9 5HD) at 10:30am for a walk of about 6 miles on good footpaths along the canal to Heybridge Basin returning alongside the river to town. Bring sandwiches for lunch. We plan to end the day in one of two micro pubs run by local breweries. Wednesday 17th February Pub Quiz – The White Horse Jim Get those brain cells ticking over with an evening of general knowledge at The White Horse, Great Baddow, CM2 7HH. The quiz usually starts about 9pm and you pay a couple of quid to enter. The pub does nice food and Jim suggested meeting at 7:30pm if you want to eat as well. Wednesday 24th February South! – Antarctic slideshow John & Judi Fresh from John & Judi’s recent trip to the Antarctic, including the Falkland Islands, South Georgia and Elephant Island. Follow in Shackleton’s footsteps, see countless penguins, elephant seals, albatrosses, swimming with icebergs and lots and lots of ice! Friday 26th to Sunday 28th February Weekend in Oxford Dave P Visit the City of Dreaming Spires, staying at YHA Oxford. Purpose-built hostel located close to the railway station in the heart of the city. Explore historic colleges, museums and pubs. Blenheim Palace and Cotswold walks are also within reach. Deposit £46 to book your bed please. (Total will be around £70 not including meal out on Saturday night).
