Friday 1st to Sunday 3rd February Weekend in Brighton Mike Visit the exotic Royal Pavilion ("an extraordinary and extravagant pleasure palace"), the Victorian piers, the Brighton Wheel, the famous beach and beautiful Sussex countryside. Staying at The Grapevine Seafront hostel in Brighton. Hostel location: 75/76 Middle Street, BN1 1AL (just off the seafront A259, Buddies Fish & Chips on the corner). Deposit £43 please. Wednesday 6th February Curry Night Cress Join Cress at the Coach and Horses in Billericay for one of their special curry nights. £9.95 gets you a trio of curries to try, which is probably enough for two people. Meet at 7:30pm (Chapel Street, CM12 9LU, near Waitrose) Let Cress know by Wed 24 Jan. if you want to come. Wednesday 13th February Pancake Wednesday Jane Pancake Wednesday is early this year, but Jane and Gordon have volunteered to host our traditional batter tossing. Please bring along pancake ingredients, your favourite fillings and something to drink to Jane & Gordon’s house, from 7.30pm. Sunday 17th February Sunday walk – St Peters Way Jim Time for leg 2 of the St Peters Way. Meet in Bicknacre outside the post-office/shop on Monks Mead at 10am (grid ref TL787026, see map) for a car shuffle to Margaretting and a 9 mile walk back. The route goes through Margaretting Tye, Stock, and the Hanningfields. Features of interest include Stock Windmill and Seamans Lane which was closed to traffic when the reservoir was built, . There are pubs at Stock, West Hanningfield, and East Hanningfield, so we’ll get a drink stop, but please bring sandwiches for lunch. Wednesday 20th February Committee meeting We’ll be planning Wednesdays for May and trips away for mid Autumn. Wednesday 27th February Sicily side show Dave/Ali Join us in the sun-kissed Aeolian Islands for views of the Appennines, Mount Etna and the lava-spewing Stromboli. Note: Unless otherwise stated, Wednesday events start at 8.30pm at the YMCA in Victoria Road, Chelmsford |
