1^st to 3^rd February

Broadstairs Hostel, Kent Coast

Come and see the wonders of Kent! Broadstairs YH is ideally situated for bracing coastal walks or the history and museums of the medieval Isle of Thanet

The hostel is a cosy Victorian villa in Charles Dickens' "English Watering Place", with its Bleak House museum and many traditional flintstone cottages. Nearby are Ramsgate Royal Harbour, the seaside resort of Margate and the medieval Cinque Port town of Sandwich. Visits to Canterbury or Dover are also possible. Coast walks include the Saxon Shore Way along Sandwich Bay to Deal, or the Wantsum Walk to the ruined towers of Reculver church.

We are renting the entire hostel, which includes a number of small dormitories which would suit families.

Deposit of £15 please. Total cost will be about £28.

Wednesday 6^th February

Pub Night

Join us from 8:30pm for a bevvy or two at The Duck, PH, Newney Green. "Low beams and open fires; good ales and fine wines".

Leaving Chelmsford on Writtle Rd., pass Writtle Green, turn left (Ongar Rd.) bear right into Victoria Rd (signposted Newney Green), pass Queen Vic pub, and follow the lane for about a mile to the Duck (grid ref. TL651070, see map).

Wednesday 13^th February

Committee Meeting

Come and join us in the Charles Peters lounge from 8:30pm to discuss future trips and plan events for April. Everybody welcome.

Sunday 17^th February

Canal Walk

Lorna

Barring natural disasters (e.g. flood or pestilence) we will be walking from Heybridge Basin to Chelmsford along the course of the River Blackwater. This is a thirteen mile hike along the towpath of the Chelmer and Blackwater Navigation. Starting from Heybridge Basin, we stop for lunch at the Rodney, Little Baddow at 1.00pm. We then continue on to Chelmsford. We shall leave cars at each end as this is a linear walk.

Meet at the YMCA at 9am or Heybridge Basin car park (TL870069, see map) at 9.30 (we have to start promptly to finish before dark).

Wednesday 20^th February

Magic Man

An evening of entertainment - pure Magic before your very eyes! I guarantee that by the end of the evening you'll be saying "How do they DO that?!"

Lorna has invited a guest magician for the evening. Contributions of £2 per person on the night. Please try to arrive promptly at 8.30pm.

Anyone gagging after scantily-clad babes roasting on Mediterranean beaches will have to wait a tad longer. This is the Majorca of spectacular mountain scenery and dramatic gorges. Has to be seen to be believed, so come early to be sure of a seat.
