Sunday 6th December

Sunday Walk

Dave J

Meet at the The White Hart pub in Moreton (grid ref TL535070, see map) at 10:30am for a walk of about 4 miles, following Cripsey Brook along the water meadows and ending up back at the pub at 1pm for a well deserved lunch.

Please be careful not to block the pub car park with our cars.

Wednesday 9th December

The Three Elms, Chignal St James

Pub Night: The Three Elms

George

In a change to our previously published programme, George will be hosting a night at his local, The Three Elms (leave Chelmsford on the A1060 (Rainsford Rd/Roxwell Rd), turn right at lights into Chignall Road, after 1 mile turn left (Mashbury Rd), signposted Chignall St. James. The Three Elms is on the right after another mile. (Grid ref TL675097, postcode CM1 4TZ, see map).

Meet from 8pm.

Wednesday 16th December

Photo Competition

Ali

Come join us for a mince pie and bring some photos from the last year to remind us what we’ve all been up to.

We traditionally operate 4 categories: Best Portrait, Best Landscape, Best Caption and Spirit of YHA. The only rule is that the picture must be of a CYHA event that has taken place since 1st Nov 2008. As usual we expect to plumb new depths with the caption comp and you will have to be there if you want to hear the versions we can’t publish!

Saturday 19th December

Christmas Dinner

Helen L

Our traditional Christmas gathering at Chignal St. James village hall (3 miles from Chelmsford) with as much as you can eat for just £9 each.

Turkey Dinner

We start with George's traditional Polish Christmas specialities of beetroot borsch and fish & sauerkraut, and follow this with delicious turkey with crisply roasted spuds and succulent veg, and of course Christmas pudding with lashings of custard, all rounded off with coffee and wafer-thin mints.

The dinner is prepared by volunteers, with turkeys, spuds, sprouts & gravy from all corners of the county. It’s all enormous fun and we are looking for volunteer veggie peelers, boilers, roasters, room decorators etc.

To find it (grid ref TL665108, see map), take the A1060 (Rainsford Rd./Roxwell Rd.) out of Chelmsford; turn right at lights into Chignall Rd., after 1 mile turn left (Mashbury Rd) signposted Chignall St. James. Hall is on the left after almost 2 miles.

Be there for 7.30pm. Bring your own drinks.

Please send £9 to Dave P to secure your dinner place (and say if you want a vegetarian option).

New Year trip to Bamford

Jim

Celebrate the New Year in the Peak District. Homestead and Cheesehouse Bunkhouses are situated on a small mixed farm in the middle of Bamford, close to Stanage Edge and the Derwent reservoirs.

The bunkhouses have showers, central heating and drying facilities. Homestead has a large dayroom with oak seating and a fully equipped kitchen. Bamford railway station is 10 mimutes walk away.  And there are two pubs within two minutes walk.

We’ve booked both bunkhouses, totalling 26 beds, for 6 nights from 28th December. You’ll need to bring a sleeping bag.

Directions: The farm is in the centre of Bamford on South View Lane (turn off A6013 at the ‘Country Stores’).

£30 deposit to book your place. Cost will be about £18 per night including meals.

Note: Unless otherwise stated, Wednesday events start at 8.30pm at the YMCA in Victoria Road, Chelmsford
