We’ll be meeting at the Chapter School park and ride, situated just off junction 1 of M2 on the A2 in Strood at 11am. We’ll take the bus into Rochester, and walk along the river to Upnor for lunch (please bring sandwiches) before returning to Rochester’s Dickensian Christmas festival for roasted chestnuts, street market, torchlight procession and carol singing.

Wednesday 6th December

Pub Night

Dave J

Join Dave from 8:30pm at the Three Elms in Chignal St.James for a seasonal drink.

To find it, leave Chelmsford on the A1060 (Rainsford Rd/Roxwell Rd), turn right at lights into Chignall Road, after 1 mile turn left (Mashbury Rd), signposted Chignall St. James. The Three Elms is on the right after another mile. (Grid ref TL675097)

Saturday 9th December

Christmas Dinner & Party

Helen

Our annual Christmas feast at Chignall St. James Village Hall (3 miles from Chelmsford). The tables will be groaning with all the turkeys, crisply roasted spuds and succulent veg you'd expect, along with George's Polish specialities of beetroot borsch and fish & sauerkraut. Best to start those stomach stretching exercises now.

Helen is particularly in need of willing helpers to assist with the shopping, peeling, roasting, etc.. So please get in touch to volunteer.

To find it (grid ref TL665108, see map), take the A1060 (Rainsford Rd./Roxwell Rd.) out of Chelmsford; turn right at lights into Chignall Rd., after 1 mile turn left (Mashbury Rd) signposted Chignall St. James. Hall is on the left after almost 2 miles.

Be there for 7.30pm. Bring your own drinks.

£8 to Dave P to book your place; please say if you want the vegetarian option.

Wednesday 13th December

Committee Meeting

We will be trip planning for summer and organising Wednesday evening activities for February.

Ideas for Scotland Trip, Whitsun week next year: We’ve been discussing a possible Munro-bagging trip to Ratagan and Glencoe, or an island-hopping trip to the Outer Hebrides, or perhaps a combination of the two. If you have any views or preferences, please let the committee know before the December meeting.

Wednesday 20th December

Photo Competition

Ali

A chance to re-live the events of the past year. We traditionally operate 4 categories: Best Portrait, Best Landscape, Best Caption and Spirit of YHA.

The only rule is that the picture must be of a CYHA event that has taken place since 1st Nov 2005. We can only really accept hard copies of your images, but don’t despair if all you have is digital, Dave P is planning a slide show of the year in January.

Wednesday 27th December 2006 to Monday 1st January 2007

New Year Trip to Exmoor

Dave P

We have booked the Dulverton Residential Centre, situated in Dulverton, Somerset, the “Gateway to Exmoor”. Dulverton is on the southern edge of the Exmoor National Park, a park which combines stunning wild moorland with awe inspiring coastline.

The centre has three bunkrooms and some smaller rooms, a spacious dining room, two lounges, and a fully equipped kitchen. It is centrally heated and has both showers and washrooms. You need to bring a sleeping bag.

The centre is adjacent to the Catholic church, at the end of a quiet cul-de-sac off High Street, near junction with Bridge Street and Chapel Street, in the middle of Dulverton (Grid ref SS913278, see map). There’s a parking space for unloading, but you’ll need to move your car to one of the nearby public car parks.

£30 deposit to book your bed. (Cost will be around £12 a day for bed and meals)

Note: Unless otherwise stated, Wednesday events start at 8.30pm at the YMCA in Victoria Road, Chelmsford
