Wednesday 12th December

Committee Meeting

Feel free to come along and join us, everyone welcome. Along with arranging forthcoming events and future trips we will be honing the finer details of our Christmas Feast.

Saturday 15th December

CYHA Christmas Meal

Lorna

Always the most popular event of the year. Two enormous turkeys, with the usual mountain of crisply roasted spuds and succulent veg, all for just £6! How do we do it? The answer is by getting loads of volunteers to peel, chop, boil and roast. We also need someone to organise tables and napkins in the hall.

All members and guests welcome, but please pay by 5th December so we know how much food to buy. And say if you want a vegetarian option.

£6 to Dave. Volunteers to Lorna.

Empty stomachs to Chignall St James Village Hall 8pm, bring your own drinks.

To find it (grid ref TL665108, see map), take the A1060 (Rainsford Rd./Roxwell Rd.) out of Chelmsford; turn right at lights into Chignall Rd., after 1 mile turn left (Mashbury Rd) signposted Chignall St. James. Hall is on the left after almost 2 miles.

Wednesday 19th December

Photo Competition

Ali

A reminiscence of the past year. Please bring along any photos (or slides, but let me know if you need a projector) from the last year that you'd like to share with the group. As an incentive we will also be having a small photo competition, awarding (modest) prizes in three categories:

Best Caption (bring your shots which are just begging to have humorous lines added to them).

Best View (self explanatory, bring your best shots of the most gorgeous places you've been with CYHA in the last year).

Photo of the Year (a picture which sums up the spirit, or a particular event of CYHA from the last year).

Saturday 22nd December (Date to be confirmed)

The Magical Land of Green Ginger

Trudi

A play by the Chelmsford Theatre Workshop at the Old Court Theatre, Springfield Road.

"Take a magical land far, far away, add a dash of Aladdin and a hint of Scheherazade, season with romance, stir in some charm and suddenly... there it is... The Magical Land of Green Ginger! A delightful tale for the young and young at heart, ideal for a winter's evening, a couple of hours of sheer escapism, adventure and all out entertainment."

The play is on 18th to 22nd and 26th to 29th Dec. at 7.45. Call Trudi to discuss preferred date. Tickets £5 from the Civic Theatre Box Office on 01245 606505.

27th December 2001 to 1st January 2002

Brecon Beacons New Year Trip

Cantref bunkhouse

Dave

For New Year, we have booked Upper Cantref Farm Bunkhouse near Brecon in South Wales for 5 nights.

A very comfortable and well equipped bunkhouse with views over the Usk valley and within walking distance of the main peaks of the Beacons. The rural market town of Brecon is just a few minutes away with its shops, museums, leisure centre and pubs. The bunkhouse is a converted farm building, which has showers, central heating, a large common room and fully equipped kitchen.

There is also a riding centre at the farm. Marion is keen to arrange pony trekking - please contact her for more details if you're interested in this.

To get there, turn off the A40 just before Brecon onto B4558, then follow brown signs to Cantref Riding Centre. Grid ref SO057259, see map. We will be in the large bunkhouse (not the Nissan Hut). Payphone number: 01874 665 692. Pillows are provided, but you will need to bring a sleeping bag.

The cost will be around £14 per night (including meals) plus about £20 towards petrol if sharing lifts from Chelmsford. £20 deposit to reserve a bed - book early to avoid disappointment - there are less beds available than we used last year.

Note: Unless otherwise stated, Wednesday events start at 8.30pm at the YMCA in Victoria Road, Chelmsford
