Sunday 14^th Walk

Newport and Wicken Bonhunt

A delightful walk of about 11 miles taking in the sights of north west Essex. Meet in Newport station car park (CB11 3PL) at 10.30am. Bring sarnis for lunch, but there’s a good chance of a drink in a pub en route.

Join us for a bit of nosh at the Duke of York, Gt Burstead, CM11 2PR, from 7:30pm. For table booking purposes let Jim know your intensions by 10^th August.

We skipped this annual celebration of all things meaty, but it’s back! Help Jim celebrate his birthday in style with a bring-and-share barbecue in his back garden. Please contact Jim in advance so he can coordinate the food so we don’t end up with all burgers and no pudding.

From 2pm in Jim's garden.

Meet in the NT car park near the Cricketers Pub in Danbury CM3 4ED at 8pm for a short walk with the bat detector. Not sure if we’ll find anything, but it will be fun trying! And we can have a drink in the pub at the end.

Friday 26^th to Monday 29^th August

Rowen, North Wales

A lovely rural retreat high in the Welsh hills, YHA Rowen is a stunning traditional Welsh farmhouse packed with character. The hostel boasts breathtaking views over the Conwy Valley and across to Snowdonia and makes for the perfect base from which to explore the hills, mountains and scenery of this area of North Wales.

Directions: Go into Rowen village and past the Ty Gwyn pub on your right. Take the second road on the right by the brown hostel sign. Follow this very steep (1 in 3) road up the hill. The hostel is on the left at very end of the tarmac road before it turns into a track. Alternatively, park at the bottom of the hill and walk up. We have exclusive use of the hostel for the bank holiday weekend.
