Wednesday 30th August The Antarctic - the Final Frontier John will be giving a slide show on the topography of the most inhospitable continent on the planet. Many people took part in its exploration: Yorkshiremen in colliers, Russian navigators in barks, and men on skidoos. All found its scenery breathtaking but its welcome fraught with danger. Yet it was not always so inhospitable - this was once a land of forests and weird beasts. The odd meteorite from Mars managed a landfall too. Slides will show all. Note: Unless otherwise stated, Wednesday events start at 8.30pm at the YMCA in Victoria Road, Chelmsford |
