Wednesday 3rd August Evening Walk Meet in the car park at The Rodney, Little Baddow, at 7:30pm for a walk through Heather Hills and along the Danbury Ridge and then back to the pub about 9ish for a night cap. Friday 5th to Sunday 7th August Cycling in Norfolk Bring your bike and spend a weekend cycling on the north Norfolk coast, staying at Wells-next-the-Sea, a new hostel in an ancient fishing village. The hostel is now fully booked. Check with Jim for any cancellations. Deposit £25. Total cost about £42. Wednesday 10th August The All-Comers Scotland Slide Show If you have a digital pic of our recent Whitsun week trip to Scotland, send it to Dave and take part in possibly the most complicated slide show ever undertaken. There may have to be some editing if Dave gets overwhelmed by offers, but it promises to be a fascinating show. Sunday 14th August Wicken Fen Walk Join us for a beautiful walk around Britains Oldest Nature Reserve. The walk is a modest 5½ miles, so there will be plenty of opportunity for bird watching, dragonfly spotting and a nice cup of tea. I can't guarantee a lunch time hostelry, so please bring sandwiches. Meet at 11am at the National Trust Wicken Fen car park (grid ref TL563705, about 10 miles NE of Cambridge). Admission to the nature reserve costs £4.10. Wednesday 17th August Committee Meeting We will be trip planning for winter and organising Wednesday evening activities for October. Everybody welcome! Sunday 21st August Jim's Birthday Barbi Join Jim for a birthday celebration, everybody welcome. Bring your own sausages, drinks and preferably something to sit on, at Jim's house from 2pm. Wednesday 24th August The Hoop Pub night with Dave as your host and a plethora of real ales to choose from. The fun starts at 8:30pm. The Hoop is on the main road running through Stock. Friday 26th to Monday 29th August North Wales August Bank Holiday weekend in Snowdonia. Break the journey on Friday night at Coalport hostel, a former China Factory in Ironbridge in Shropshire, birthplace of the industrial revolution. Spend Saturday and Sunday nights at Rowen hostel, a rustic Welsh hill farmhouse with panoramic views of the Conwy Valley and Snowdonia. The hostel is at the top of a steep lane above the unspoilt village of Ro Wen, on the Roman road to up Tal-y-Fan. A deposit of £34 will book your bed. Wednesday 31st August China Slide Show In true CYHA form, James and Marion spent their honeymoon in China taking lots of pictures to thrill and amaze us with when they got back. We salute their dedication to duty and look forward to stunning pics of the Great Wall, Beijing and the Yangtze river. Note: Unless otherwise stated, Wednesday events start at 8.30pm at the YMCA in Victoria Road, Chelmsford |
