Thursday 2nd to Tuesday 7th April Easter in the Lake District Dave P We have booked Rydal Hall Youth Centre for 5 nights, near Ambleside in the Lake District. Sheltered by the high fells of Fairfield and its neighbours, Rydal enjoys outstanding views toward Windermere, and provides an excellent base for walking. Facilities include fully equipped kitchen, Bathroom/shower facilities, large common room with wood burning stove. Pillows are provided, but you'll need to bring a sleeping bag. To find it, follow A591 for two miles north from Ambleside. In Rydal, turn right into the lane towards Rydal Mount, pass the church and take the second entrance on the right (just beyond the main gate of the hall). Pass behind the hall and over a small bridge. The youth centre is the large white building on the left (postcode LA22 9LX, see map). £40 deposit to book a bed please. Total cost will be about £20 per night including meals, plus £40 towards petrol for those sharing lifts from Essex.
Wednesday 8th April Committee Meeting Planning events for July and trips for later in the year. Please feel free to come along. Wednesday 15th April Catherine the Great Ali Chelmsford National Trust Centre are hosting a talk on Catherine the Great at the Cramphorn Theatre in Fairfield Road, Chelmsford. Find out about Russia’s longest reigning female leader and author of their Golden Age. The talk starts at 7:45pm. Cost £5, pay on the door. Sunday 19th April The John Ray Walk Dave J Follow in the steps of the famous 17th century naturalist. Meet at Witham railway station to catch the 10:30 train to Braintree – we’ll then walk the 9 miles back. Please bring sandwiches, but there are loads of great pubs when we get back to Witham. Wednesday 22nd April Pub Night – Sir Evelyn Wood Cress Join us from about 8:30pm for a bit of beer and conversation in this traditional pub. The Sir Evelyn Wood is tucked away in Widford Road, Chelmsford, CM2 8SY. Wednesday 29th April Pub Meal: The White Hart Doug Join Doug as he mourns the arrival of yet another birthday, compensated by the excellent food and great selection of beers in the welcoming country ambience of the White Hart at Margaretting Tye, CM4 9JX. Let Doug know if you are coming by 22nd April. Meal is at 7.30pm. Note: Unless otherwise stated, Wednesday events start at 8.30pm at the YMCA in Victoria Road, Chelmsford |
